[SIX MONTHS LATER]

Six months.

Six months since Adeline, Minho, Aris and Sonya had been captured at the Right Arm base after they were ambushed by WICKED. Six months, hiding away, conspiring a plan to save them. To track them. Six months. Newt couldn't believe it'd been that long without Minho. Without Adeline. Newt couldn't stop thinking back to when they were taken. The guard that shot Adeline in the abdomen with the Launcher, her body spasming and jerking. Newt being unable to get to her as the Guard hoisted her up and towards the Berg. He remembered screaming her name in a panic, but he couldn't move, frozen in shock. Newt couldn't help but wonder what they'd done to them — if they'd hurt them. Tried to break them down. Experimented on them as a way to find a Cure. He felt suddenly sick at that thought. He didn't know what to expect inside the train car. They'd executed their plan to rescue them, alongside other immunes also taken by WICKED, and were attempting to break the lock the door to the compartment open, once the train car was lowered to the ground after being tied securely to the Berg. As they did so, Newt's heart was pounding against his rib cage.

Please be in there. Please.

(Adeline)

"Get up." A guard barked, dragging the girl out of her bunk early morning. "Time to move."

It'd been three more months since they've begun the simulations — the ones designed to release those antibodies from her. But, they hadn't. They hadn't used the simulation to drain them from her, and Adeline still had little idea as to why this was the case. But, nevertheless, day after day, week after week, Adeline was woken up, dragged toward the same room. At least, until they'd decided to move again. They moved every two weeks or so, never remaining long at each place.

Today was that day, once again.

Adeline blocked out the whole process down toward the train tracks, almost not even processing the fact that her arms were being restrained. She didn't even flinch when the train jerked to move. Adeline felt too numb now to care about the other immunes around her, but she had almost tried to get to Aris and Sonya once before, and had been dragged past Minho — the guards were wary of Minho after his attempt at saving her when she'd been non - compliant months before. Since then, she'd made a promise to herself that she owed the boy more now — especially after how he'd saved Newt back in the Glade.

For the train ride, Adeline was stuck in her head. Invading images of her last and very common simulation that Serum triggered. Most simulations were morphed into others, but this one seemed more ... real. And it was, for that matter. It was the day of Newt's attempt. Adeline didn't know how she'd conjured up the images of it ... she hadn't even arrived yet. The simulation was the same: Adeline would run after the boy into the Maze, and he would stop and just shake his head from the wall. And then, it felt like she was glued to the Maze floor, stuck watching, and she couldn't save him.
