08 → "I DON'T THINK SHE LIKES US VERY MUCH!"

"Watch your head!" Frypan bellows.

"No shit, Fry!" Adeline snaps. "Hey, stop!"

"Hey, throw one more of those things — ow!" Gally grumbles, right as a rock hits him on the head. The boys continue to shield themselves from the rocks, the girls arm never tiring. Rock after rock is tossed at them. How many rocks does she have? Adeline, had it with cowering behind the plank of wood, drops the plank and dodges rocks. She races towards the ladder, beginning to climb. The girl doesn't seem to realise, not until she learns over, notices Adeline climbing up the ladder, and questions;

"What do you want from me?"

"Let me up!" Adeline demands. "Listen to me — we're trying to help."

The girl stops, staring at her for a moment, until she gives a nod. Adeline climbs up the last of the ladder, pushes open the door to the tower, and hoists herself up. As she does so, the girl scurries back, machete drawn out before her.

"Hey, slim it nice and calm. OK?" Adeline places her hand out defensively. The girl lowers the machete. "Good that. See, I'm not gonna hurt ya, OK? I'm Adeline. I was the first girl. It's OK to be scared, ya hear me? Trust me, I was scared out of my wits when I arrived. Now, you'll learn your name —"

"I know my name." She rushes out, cutting Adeline off. "It's Teresa."

"Teresa, it's nice to meet you —"

"Cut the bullcrap." Teresa snaps. "Answer me! Where am I? Why can't I remember anythin'!?"

"Listen." Adeline reasons. "We don't know why we can't remember anythin'. The place you're in, we call it the Glade."

The girl tries to let that information sink in. But, after a somewhat successful attempt at calming the girl down, the boys start calling up from the bottom of the tower. Through the voices, Adeline can only make out one clear voice.

"Is the she - bean comin' down?" Minho calls up. Adeline gets to her feet, peers down at the boys. Adeline looks at the girl, but Teresa instead just shakes her head. She grabs another rock, and another, and begins to start tossing them down again.

"Hey!" Adeline screams at the girl. "Stop it! They won't hurt you!"

"Go away!" The girl draws the machete at her. Adeline backs away, having no other choice but to leave the girl alone. She climbs back down the ladder.

"What happened?" Newt limped over towards her. "What set her off again?"

"I don't know." Adeline snapped. "She was calm until Minho called up. Threatened me with that shuck machete. I didn't have a choice but to climb back down."

"Bloody hell." Newt groans.

"Hey!" At the voice, Adeline spun around, finding Thomas racing towards Chuck. "Chuck, what's going on?"

"Girls are awesome!" The boy grinned, pointing at the lookout tower. Thomas made his way towards the tower. Adeline and Newt exchanged a glance, rushing after the boy. Thomas stopped in the midst of the boys, still shielding themselves from the rocks. Adeline and Newt stopped beside one another.

"Go away!" Teresa demands once more.

"Just duck!" Winston shrills from behind Newt.

"We come in peace!" Adeline is too distracted by the fact she just got hit with a rock on the head, to care about who said that.

"I don't think she likes us very much." Newt states, cowering under a wooden plank, with help from Winston, who had begun shielding the both of them with the wooden plank. 

"We just wanna talk!" This comes from Thomas, who stupidly walks into the direction of the girl tossing rocks at them. Thomas ducks from them, nothing to shield himself.

"I'm warning you!" She threatens once more.

"Take cover, ya'll. Take cover!" Frypan bellows.

More rocks being thrown. The boys are still shielding themselves. Thomas gets hit a few more times. So does Gally. Even Adeline does. Suddenly, Thomas' voice rings out;

"Hey, it's Thomas! It's Thomas!"

The girl stops, peeking out over the ledge of the lookout tower. They lower whatever they used to shield themselves from the rocks as soon as she does. At the mention of his name, Teresa stops throwing the rocks, hopefully for good.

"I'm gonna come up, okay?" Thomas states. The girl doesn't say anything, just nods. "Okay. Just me." Gally throws Thomas a look. Thomas starts to climb the ladder.

"I'm coming up." Thomas warns. He begins to climb the ladder, disappearing up into the lookout tower. They mill about, waiting. For the next couple of minutes, Adeline could hear Thomas talking to Teresa. Reassuring her like Adeline tried to do. He repeated some of the things she had told Teresa before she'd turned on Adeline again.

"What's goin' on up there?" Gally calls up. Adeline watches as Thomas gets to his feet, peering down them like Adeline had done when Minho called up.

"Is she comin' down?" Newt quizzed, squinting due to the sun.

"Um." Thomas turns back to Teresa. "Hey, listen you guys just give us a second, okay?"

The boys, including Adeline, exchange glances. Gally continues to stare up at them, hands on his hips.

"Alright. C'mon." Newt huffs, motioning for them to disperse away. Boys begin to do just that, and Adeline starts to move away, to go back to the kitchen. She didn't need to go back to bedside duty anymore, anyway.

"Is this what all girls are like?" Frypan comments, earning a smack on the back of the head by Newt as they disperse. Adeline gives a laugh at his comment. Minho and Chuck share a glance.

"That girl is crazy." Zart comments.

"That girl." Adeline states. "Would beat your arse if you tried anything, Zart!"

Newt gives a laugh, following the same direction as the Keeper of the Track - Hoes, back towards the gardens. Adeline goes back to the Kitchen, until she goes to look for Newt an hour or so later.
