"Oh." Minho boldly replies, earning a few chuckles from Thomas, Teresa and Frypan. But, while they were pleading Minho to wake up, they'd forgotten momentarily that he wasn't the only one who got struck by lightning. Their eyes train over to Newt, who is cradling Adeline, looking for a pulse. He finds one, but it's weak. Newt's heart is pounding against his rib cage.
"Adeline, please. C'mon!" He pleads. Newt cups her face in his hands, pleading. His eyes are pooling with tears. The others realise that the girl hasn't regained consciousness yet, and their relief turns back to dread. Minho reacts first.
"Shuck, no." Minho grunts, getting to his knees. But, he's weak, and has to get help up. He gets to where Newt sits. Aris is on the other side of Newt, staring down in concern and fear at the unconscious girl. The group gets to them, crowds around her.
"Is there a pulse?" Thomas quizzes.
"It's weak. There's a heartbeat, but she won't wake up!" Newt cries. "Adeline, wake up. Love, c'mon!"
"Lay her down!" Teresa states. "She was clutching her arm — I think she fainted in pain, she should recover and come to in a few seconds. Lay her down and elevate her feet."
"And if she doesn't?" Newt quizzes, panicking.
"Just trust me." Teresa states. Newt nods at Teresa, gently lowering Adeline onto her back and elevating her feet.
It's OK. She'll be OK. She's OK — she has to be. Newt prayed. Newt clutches her hand, unable to let his eyes pry away, praying. The room lapsed into silence. And then, her fingers twitched. Newt felt it as he was holding onto her hand for dear life. Then, her eyes fluttered, and her mouth parted, and she began gasping for air like a fish out of water. Relief flooded their faces.
"Thank god." Newt cried. Adeline's face morphed into confusion.
"W ... what?" She choked out, voice hoarse. "G ... guys? What happened?"
Nobody could speak. They couldn't believe it. For a minute there, they feared the worst. Thought they'd lost her. But, thankfully, Adeline's body became responsive again, and Newt was more than relieved. They helped her up into a sitting position, where Newt pulled her into his arms, squeezing her so tight that Adeline yelped in pain.
"Thank god." Was all Newt could say. "Don't do that to me ever again. Bloody hell."
"Did — did I get struck by lightning?" Adeline quizzed. "Everything's a blur after running from the storm towards the building. And my arm is on fire."
Newt pulled back, and Teresa helped to peel her pack from her shoulders. Luckily, the material of her jacket and the sleeve of her shirt underneath didn't stick to the skin, which was surely burnt. If it was sticking to her skin, according to Teresa, they wouldn't be able to remove it. Once managing get the jacket off without causing too much pain, and rolling up the sleeve to her shirt, they find scattered burns down her left arm. They were blistering and had singed through layers of skin. The lightning gave her third - degree burns. Adeline grit her teeth, trying to suppress the cry of pain rising up her throat.
"Anyone got water? And something to suffice as a bandage?" This came from Teresa. Newt unzipped his pack, rummaging around before finding the water bottle, which he'd been rationing his water supply.
