There was loud banging that somewhat brought the girl out of her mind. Guards raised their weapons, heading out to inspect what is going on. And then, there's gunfire. Commotion. Adeline squeezes her eyes shut at all the noise. Then, the commotion was over. It went silent. She hears someone calling Minho's name — the voice, it had to have belonged to Thomas. The immunes begin to bellow, to make their presence known. It another blur of events, the compartment they were in seemed to swing. It didn't take long until all this had came to an end, as if something was lowering it down. Then, there was banging, clanging, and light streamed into the compartment.

(Newt)
Finally, they'd gotten the lock from the door, and Thomas rushed inside the compartment. Newt was close behind, and sensed Frypan, Brenda and the others close behind him, too. As Newt slowly ascended into the compartment, his eyes had to adjust to the darkness, the only light source coming through the now - open door. He moved through the aisles of immunes, his eyes trained on the chained kids and their sunken features. He could hear Thomas reassuring them that they were safe now, and Newt gave the same words as he passed. His eyes trailed around, scanning the faces.
"Newt." Thomas called to his friend. Newt brought his eyes to meet Thomas'. Thomas motioned him forward, pointing to behind him. "Look."
Newt looked over Thomas' shoulder, where he saw a girl, dark brown hair cascading over her face. She wore a dull dark blue shirt and matching pants, and her hands were tied up like the others. There were scattered patches of bruises over her arms, and numerous cuts on her knuckles. But, her eyes were sunken, far away. Newt almost didn't recognize her. In a blur, he moved towards the girl, forgetting that she'd been held as prisoner for six months to the people who'd thrown them up into that Maze, placing his hand on her shoulder. Newt motioned for Thomas to cut the rope restraining her hands, and Thomas did. As her hands were freed, her head snapped up, eyes shifting to stare at Newt.

(Adeline)
Adeline trained her eyes to her feet, away from the blinding light, voices reassuring them that they were safe.
"Adeline?" At the sound of someone calling her name — the gentle voice that she knew so well — her head snapped up, and her eyes fixated on the person before her.
Newt.
Newt's hair had grown out in the six months she'd been gone from him. He looked older now, too. Like those months away gave him time to grow up a little more. She reached her hand up, caressed his cheek, trying to prove to herself that he was real. Tears pricked at her eyes, realising that this wasn't simulation Newt — the one she'd watched jump over and over and she couldn't save.
This was him.

"Adeline." Newt whispered, treading carefully, trying not to overstep any new boundaries after what she'd most likely endured over the last six months. Her eyes cleared to realization, a relieved look spreading across her face. He couldn't believe it. Couldn't help but wonder what they'd done to her. Her arm shot up, rope marks etched around her wrists due to them being restrained, and her right hand clasped his cheek, almost like she was trying to believe this was real.
