Chapter 31

Third Narrator POV 

-Flashback-

It was another regular day in the glade but for two gladers, Abbie and Newt, they were excited to go on a date that day with Alby allowing the two to go out from the main base to have some alone time. He remarked with a smirk, "Just please be careful you two." 

Newt, after he finished his job, quickly went to grab the picnic Frypan helped him make. 

"Good luck my lovebirds." Frypan said to Newt. 

"Thanks and if you need anything I got you." Newt said. 

"Got it and good luck with tonight." Frypan said before Newt nodded and walked away to set up the picnic in the spot where he asked Abbie to be his. The spot was beautiful and was the only thing that seemed bright compared to the other parts of the dark forest the gladers lived next to. As soon as he finished the set up, he quickly walked back over to go and get Abbie who was just finished up her duties as a medjack. 

When he got there, Abbie was saying bye to Clint and Jeff. He said a quick hi to the two other gladers before taking Abbie's waist in one of his arms and then leading her to their spot. 

"So where we going?" She asked. 

"It's a secret." Newt said before grabbing some cloth that was in his pocket. 

"To make sure it's a secret, we're going to put this around your eyes." Newt said before putting the cloth around her eyes. 

"Just gonna make sure you can't see." Newt added before quickly pecking her lips which surprised Abbie for a moment. 

"Make sure you're got me." Abbie said while tightening her arms around Newt's arm. 

When the two got there, Newt removed the cloth from her eyes revealing the area and she was shocked and joyful. The two then settled on the blanket that was laid out and began to eat the food Frypan made for them. 

"Frypan always the best cook." Abbie said before Newt agreed. 

The two then began to go into a normal conversation on their present before Abbie started rambling about the future. 

"When we get out, I want to explore the world out there." She said, "Seeing the world to escape what we're in right now would be such a flip of the switch." 

Abbie kept going on about what she plans for the future but the whole time Newt focused on her beauty.

"How about you Newt?" She asked and he snapped out of his zone out. 

"What was that, love?" He asked. 

"How about you for the future?" She asked. 

"Hmmmm," He thought, "Anywhere you wanna go sounds perfect. Out there is a new world but we can always stick together." 

Abbie giggled and sarcastically said, "Don't go all sappy with me." 

The two went back into some silence with Abbie happily munching or giggling at random thoughts. 

"I love you." Newt said to her. 

"I love you too." Abbie said back. 

-Flashback End- 

Abbie had Newt on her lap and was sobbing her eyes out with mass of war behind the group. Before she could do anything, Newt's eyes started to open.
