"Hyuck, I seriously think you should reconsider what you're about to do," Renjun told his best friend, begging the younger not to ask Mark to the school dance that was bound to happen next week.
A few months had passed by and Donghyuck had been following Mark around more than ever to the point that he even waited for him to leave his house in the morning to follow him. He has good intentions, but little did he know was that the older was close to lashing out on the poor boy.
Donghyuck was currently waiting for Mark to walk into the cafeteria. He had a pretty large poster with little hearts and kiss marks along with golden glitter words, reading 'Will you be my Winter Formal date? P.s. I bought you a snack basket!!'
Renjun has asked countless times if he was sure he wanted to do this, especially in the cafeteria where there are a lot of people to witness. But Donghyuck kept assuring his best friend that he's definitely sure about what he's about to do.
"For the millionth time Jun, I'm sure I want to do this," Donghyuck responded, finishing his tray of food before looking over at Mark's table to see if he was there, and he was. "Yay! It's time!"
"Wait, Haec-" But Donghyuck was already long gone with his poster and mini snack basket in his hands before he could stop his best friend.
Donghyuck skipped over to Mark's table and stood in front if the older with the poster and basket behind his back. He was wearing a pink sweater and black shorts with a little bear purse over his shoulders as today was Friday, which were often dress down days meaning that you could wear whatever you'd like as long as it was school appropriate.
"Hi Mark! I have something to ask you," Donghyuck chirped and Mark continued eating his lunch, not looking up at the tanned male though the younger didn't seem to mind as he whipped out the poster behind his back.
"Will you go to the winter formal with me?" Donghyuck asked, the tables around Mark's stopping what they were doing to stare at them. "Oh, I also bought you many snacks too!" Donghyuck held out the basket in his hands.
Mark only looked up at the poster, glancing back and forth between that and the basket before eating. He stood up, snatching the basket from Donghyuck's hand and threw his garbage away, leaving the cafeteria. Donghyuck jumped happily up and down, running back over to his lunch table with a bashful smile.
"He said yes!" Donghyuck sang and Renjun choked on his food, making the younger pat his back to make sure he was okay.
"Really?" Everyone at the table all said at the same time which made the tanned male nod his head.
"Well he accepted the snacks I bought him so I'm taking that as a yes!" Donghyuck reasoned.
"But Donghyuck he d-"
"What sould I wear?! We need to go shopping! The dance is next Friday," Donghyuck stated while Renjun dragged Donghyuck out of the cafeteria and to the bathroom, which thankfully was empty or so that's what the older thought.
"Um, why are we in here?" Donghyuck asked and Renjun took a deep breath before speaking.
"Look, I don't think it's a good idea for you to go to the dance with Mark," Renjun confessed and Donghyuck tilted his head in confusion.
"Why not?" Donghyuck question with a pout forming on his lips.
"Because. Just because Donghyuck," Renjun said.
"That's not a reason. I need a valid reason and explanation," Donghyuck crossed his arms, now squinting his eyes.
Another thing that Renjun couldn't besides him being dense was how intelligent Donghyuck was, always needing an explanation for something. He is very quick witted but he's school smart, not life smart.
"He doesn't like you Donghyuck! He obviously doesn't feel comfortable around you. Hyuck, he doesn't treat you right can't you see that?" Renjun explained and Donghyuck's jaw dropped.
"He doesn't-"
"You don't know anything about him!" Donghyuck suddenly raised his voice, catching the older off guard.
"Neither do you! Donghyuck, do you even hear yourself right now?" Renjun asked in disbelief.
"I should be asking you the same thing! You're supposed to be my best friend!" Donghyuck pointed at the older, his finger in his face.
And this was the last thing Renjun couldn't stand about Donghyuck, how the younger would always use the best friend card on him. He hated it, he hated it so much but Donghyuck would never understand that or reason for it.
Renjun was doing everything in his power to keep himself contained before he exploded. He didn't want to argue with Donghyuck. They barely ever argued over something serious, everything else would just be some playful banter. But this time was different.
"As your best friend, I am supposed to make sure you don't get hurt. I'm supposed to make sure you're okay. I'm supposed to make sure you're happy and satisfied! I'm trying to protect you, why can't you see that?!" Renjun yelled, swatting Donghyuck's hand away from his face and causing the younger to back up into the sink.
"Well maybe I don't need your protection. As my best friend, you're supposed to be there for me and support me no matter what... You're wrong about him. You'll see," Donghyuck scoffed and pushed Renjun with his shoulder to leave the bathroom.
The older watched as Donghyuck left, letting out a huge sigh in frustration as he kicked the bathroom stall. He pulled multiple strands of his hair.
"Fuck!"
Renjun's head shot up towards the voice that caught his attention. He saw a boy with black hair covering his forehead as he was reaching down to rub his shin. Renjun didn't hit the stall, but the person in front of him instead.
"Oh shit, I'm so sorry!" Renjun quickly went up to him, dropping to his knees to check the other's shin while the black haired boy just watched in awe.
"It's okay. I can tell it was an accident," the other said, his voice was deep but very soft and quiet. It made Renjun's heart flutter at the new sound he found so addicting.
"I can take you to the nurse and then later I can buy you something as an apology," Renjun said as he stood back up, his head facing the ground.
"That's fine you don't have to. I'll be okay. Not to pry into your business or anything, but I heard your argument you had with your friend," the other said as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
"Oh. I'm sorry you had to hear that. You must also think I'm a bad friend too then, huh?" Renjun scratched the back of his nape as the other shook his head.
"Not at all. You're just looking out for your friend. I'm sure everything was probably a misconception and you will make up soon," the other flashed a smile that creased his eyes into crescent moons which Renjun thought was the most beautiful thing he's seen.
"I hope so, thank you. By the way, I haven't seen you around here before. Are you perhaps new to this school?" The two toned haired boy asked the other who nodded, a smile still plastered on his face.
"Yup, today was my first day. I'm Jeno," the black haired boy held out his hand for Renjun to take and the older did so.
"I'm Renjun."
