"yes, yes. i know the drill, mrs. kim. i do this everyday you don't have to worry." chaewon told the older woman who began heading towards the counter where she was standing.

"of course, i know that the store is in good hands with you here, chaewon. anyways, make sure to have your pepper spray in hand. a lot of weird people come in here this time of night. i'll be heading out now." mrs. kim turned towards the door after chaewon replied with a nod, but stopped midway.

turning around smiling, she said one more thing. "feel free to treat yourself to a few face masks and snacks. i saw that you're going to meet your soulmate soon, and we want you looking great for that don't we? take it for free, i better not see any extra money from you in the cash register." with another soft smile, she left leaving a grinning chaewon to look after the shop for the night.

chaewon's shift that day had been pretty uneventful so far. she was currently on her phone, scrolling through tiktok since no one was in the store. as much as she loved mrs. kim and the money she earned, she found this job quite boring.

putting her phone down and stretching, she looked outside the window and saw a large variety of stuff. one thing chaewon enjoyed about working the evening shift was that she could observe the people who went past the store.

even though she enjoyed talking to and being around people, she also liked having time to herself and observing things from afar. everyday she got to see the expressions on people's faces and guess what type of day they had had. she got to see birds flying around in large flocks and even the sunset.

the store was in a place where the buildings didn't block the horizon, so there was always a clear view of the sunset every night. that was one of the things chaewon looked forward to everyday- watching the sunset.

she could sit and collect her thoughts for the entire day while observing the pretty colors. actually, the sun had just started setting and she was looking outside the large glass doors at the sky painted with shades of oranges and pinks.

today she was thinking about what mrs. kim had said about looking good when meeting her soulmate.

she wasn't very insecure about her looks, in fact she thought she was quite pretty. she rarely worried about her looks but now she was starting to feel nervous. she opened the camera app on her phone and observed her face.

she looked the same, so why was she suddenly nervous? chaewon glanced back at the sunset, the colors were starting to turn more purplish by now. her soulmate. she was feeling insecure because of her soulmate. some person she didn't even know yet. what if they thought she was ugly? "well that would be a disappointment. imagine being stuck why someone you don't even think is pretty," she muttered before looking back out the glass.

after just sitting there in silence for a few minutes, she let out a laugh. "what the hell chaewon. this isn't like me." she slapped herself on both cheeks, then looked out at the sky and noticed how it was almost completely dark by now.

stretching her arms out, she decided she was going to organize the cash register instead of dwelling on her thoughts to the point where she started crying. opening the cash register, she groaned at the number of unorganized bills.

"i can literally hear you groaning from outside." chaewon snapped her head up, hearing the voice breaking the silence. moving her eyes up to the person's head, she realized that it was her brother and calmed down noticeably.

he chuckled at his twin's small panic. "what? did you think i was some drunk creep or something?"

"why are you here, taehyun?"

"can't i pay my sister a visit? you literally complain about how boring it is sitting here and managing the shop. if you want i can lea-"

"no- no stay. i don't think i can sort the candy aisle one more time without my brain exploding so i'd rather talk to you, no matter how annoying you are."

"glad to know you find me annoying, dear sister," said taehyun sending a sarcastic grin towards chaewon while moving around the counter and sitting on the stool next to her.

"didn't you say that you had plans?" chaewon asked taehyun who rolled his eyes as a response.

"well i was going to go work out with yeonjun, but then he decided to delay our plans because he wanted to take a nap. so now i have an extra forty-five minutes to spend with my dear sweet chaewonnie," he finished off squishing her cheeks, knowing she hated it.

"do i need to call yeonjun to tell him to hide so you don't kill him for sleeping?" chaewon said while slapping his fingers off her cheeks.

"no, i think it'll be much funnier if i pull up to his house with two nerf guns and pew pew the shit out of him."

"i like your thinking, lemme go see if we have anything else you can throw at him."

"i know i'm a genius, no need to tell me chaewon." taehyun followed her down an aisle and spent the rest of his time at the store arguing with her about how much he had to pay for a pack of water balloons.
