minji's first meeting with jisung was weird, per say. i mean it isn't everyday you open a door to see royalty sitting on your best friend's couch. especially when said royal ridiculously drops his phone on his face.

"well, hello there... listen i'm not gonna be formal with you just because you're the prince. we're on the same level here."

chaewon stood there with a loss of words as she watched her friend talk to jisung as if he was any other guy. funny, he was her soulmate and she still could barely say a sentence to him.

"okay then, hello minji."

minji just waved him off, directing her attention to chaewon. she was still 'sick' wasn't she?

"min, i'm not actually sick. that was a lie." still, chaewon took the bag of snacks and meds from minji's hand to keep for herself.

"OH MY GOD WERE YOU GUYS FUCKING-"

"oh minji!" chaewon took a quick glance at her soulmate, who looked a bit drained of his regular color.

"sorry, sorry. what's the lie for then?" minji asked, expecting a immediate answer from her best friend, which she didn't end up getting. instead she got to see the other two sharing a conversation with their eyes, or possibly telepathy. she'd never know.

"nevermi-"

"i was at the palace."

"WHAT."

"remember those guys that were following me? i was kinda hiding out from them there."

"wait, park, so you're saying you made my best friend cry but now you're letting her stay in your big ass house?"

leave it to minji to give unfiltered remarks to anybody and everybody.

and as usual, jisung just looked at the speaker with a plain face. not entirely though, as minji could tell he felt uncomfortable because of her words.

chaewon was quick to butt it, "actually, chenle kind of forced him to so..."

that was a mild blow to jisung's ego. not that she meant it, but he really seemed like a selfish brat in this situation. he didn't want to fit the role of 'spoiled rich boy with no kindness for others', but had he really shown the girl anything else?

the few minutes of silence to let this information sit was interrupted with minji clearing her throat as she abruptly stood up from her seat on the floor.

"well, i'll be on my way then. kinda feels imbalanced here, but chae, please call me while you're at the palace? especially if this motherfucker pulls some weird shit." and without another word or waiting for response she was out the door, setting the room in silence again. the sad smile on her face went unnoticed, too.

the pair sat in the dim, yet filling light of the sunset spilling through the apartment's balcony door. the shades of oranges, pinks, and purples colored in both their faces, reflecting the several hues of emotions within the two of them.

for chaewon, it was a feeling of confliction regarding the tattoo on her wrist and the person beside her. for him, it was the years of hating the clock, just to get something too good to be true out of it. sometimes things really don't go our way do they?

it was nearly complete darkness before another sound came from either of them. to the girl's surprise, it was jisung who broke the rhythm of the wall clock.

"do you want to do something? like since we're already out?"

"i don't really have any ideas..."

"leave that to me, c'mon."

chaewon had never expected a guy who had the country in his hands to buy tteokkochi from an old lady on the street. hell, she didn't even expect the guy to drag her out here in the first place, but here she was.

a second later, jisung was back, carrying a skewer of warm rice cakes in each of his hands, one of which he handed to chaewon. this wasn't the first time he'd done something nice for her, but chaewon could tell something was off as they walked through the backstreets of seoul.

"i'm sorry," jisung blurted out, nearly dropping the rice cake out of his mouth.

chaewon observed the boy with her usual reserve. this felt normal. not the normal between her and jisung, but just the regular normal.

"what for?"

"just acting like a dick, i guess. i'm really sorry for making you cry that night and i'm sorry for calling you a bitch. i know this doesn't count as an excuse, but i just don't get this whole soulmate thing, so i'm also sorry for being a bad one."

jisung took a breath, looking down at the steps he was taking. chaewon looked at him with her usual soft eyes. this was different.

"i never got the whole point of this and how it worked, but i don't really care for that anymore. y'know when i was little i always wondered why my parents never got along at home when the entire country called them 'the perfect soulmates' because of what they saw on the press. i kind of gave up on wondering and just knew i never wanted to go through that myself.

"but, i'm still doing something just as bad, huh?" jisung let out a sad chuckle, "so i'm sorry for being so difficult when we're literally bonded together by some invisible string and thank you for having the patience to deal with it. after hearing your friend talk about me like i'm a selfish brat, i realized that there's both of us in this. it's gonna take a while to change, so sorry for making you test your patience with me in this process."

after his little speech, he expected silence, just like anytime he'd voiced something important in the past to those around him. well he did get that, but he also got an unexpected surprise as chaewon stopped in her tracks, grabbing the fabric of jisung's hoodie.

she gave him the most comforting hug he'd received from the very few he'd received in his life. it wasn't forceful, but inviting, as a response to jisung's words.

"thank you jisung, i understand." the two didn't have to pull apart for jisung to feel chaewon's soft smile as she said that.

this time around, the soft tingling on their wrists didn't feel half bad.
