The birds were disturbed and began to fly in every direction, as if trying to escape from something. The monsters, like forest wolves, were also running away. The same goes for some harmless animals that were desperate to run away from things that let out powerful and menacing roar.

"What the hell was that?." Someone asked in a low voice, but got elbowed by his mate to silence him.

Then they saw an enormous messy jet black beast slowly walking, using bushes to prey on two elves who didn't run and who instead used the rocks in the river as cover, but didn't know that the monster had already pinpointed their location.

"What a waste, they are already done for. We should have moved much earlier, but now they are nothing but playthings and food for this monster. " The seniority and other members nodded in agreement. "We will wait and see if they can survive, if not, we'll leave this forest empty-handed or kidnap some villager or townsfolk somewhere as usual."

Then, looking from the cliff, they saw that the monster was already running towards the river, in the general direction of the helpless elves. Some of the hooligans couldn't help but sighed why the elves didn't run the moment they heard that roar and instead hid in that stupid place.

Leka POV

"Hey Rinne! Faster! " I look at my stiff childhood friend, who has a vein popping in her temples as usual. She is angry and will reprimand me from time to time and told me to be careful. But we are still kids. I don't know why she always acted as an adult despite being one year younger than me. She should really have enjoyed her childhood more, so I always dragged her to play.

"Gruu! For Pete's sake Leka! Don't came running in wet ground!."

"Hahaha! I won't fall!."

Presently, we are walking and occasionally running on the side of the river filled with large black stones and ordinary boulders. According to the people in the village, there's a former volcano here that spit stones and fire a long time ago, but it had stopped erupting since then, so they called it the "dead volcano." But the remainder of that fearsome volcano is still visible through these large black stones and regular boulders of stone and cave crystals. 

But things here become more interesting and mystical if it turns dark, but the nocturnal monsters roam here, so we are not allowed to visit here, but I saw it once together with my uncle, and it's truly eye-catching. The cave stones and black stones shone brightly, filled with undescribable luminous lights that couldn't be produced in the village. Many are also curious about it and have bought some of the stones, but they aren't glowing like on the sides of rivers, so they are left here other than taking the cave stones as a material for construction.

Along the way, we picked various things, including some unique shiny stones as souvenirs for our friends in the village. Until a terrorizing roar echoes, making me freeze in my track.

"Ri-rinne! We ——!?." Before I could finish my words, Rinne dragged me into the river and used the large boulders as cover. "Lower your voice, that thing is too close. We can't run, our option is only to hide." 

I was shudder upon learning that a monster was creeping close. My sense of danger began to reach its limit, as if I was going to spiral out of control. The sound of water splashing and flowing was the only thing that made me calm. A loud sound might have made me flip due to nervousness.

It's my fault. We are now in a dangerous situation because of me. I should have listened to Rinne and stayed in the village. I began regretting my decision. I unconsciously gripped the clothes of Rinne, then looked at her gloomy expression and copied her by peeking in the woods. I saw something large moving there, and moving to hide its enormous body in the bush, peeking at it with its bloodshot eyes.
