It was her last day here.
So here we are, sitting in a restaurant. As planned, it was just the three of us, accompanied by a few escorts.
“Why are there so many of your servants here?” I muttered, as dozen of their never-ending hostility toward me never ceasing to amaze.
“Apparently, as the honorary queen, my mother has listed Cecily as royalty. Having two unmarried royals meeting someone of your stature, without proper diplomatic ties to my country, triggers their overprotectiveness,” Lisa replied with a faint smirk.
“Is that how it is?” I murmured, my thoughts wandering as my eyes scanned the seats. “Ladies first,” I said, gesturing for them to take their seats. Lisa and Cecily sat gracefully, taking their places before I finally settled into mine at the head of the table.
Immediately, their servants sprang into action, arranging napkins, utensils, and everything else with meticulous action.
To me, it was an unnecessary exaggeration.
Why make everything so tedious?
Lisa and Cecily know perfectly well how to grab napkins or utensils from the center of the table. Is it because they’re technically princesses? Now that’s royal privilege, alright.
“What would you like to order?” I asked, glancing at both of them.
“I’d like this raspberry pound cake parfait,” Lisa said calmly. “The same goes for my daughter,” she added, with Cecily nodding in agreement.
“There’s parfait?” I muttered, scrolling through the menu. I had thought this was a dinner set. “This kebab, kindly,” I said to the waiter nearby. “Drinks, ladies?”
“Grape juice and water,” they both replied. I nodded and glanced at the waiter, who quickly acknowledged their choices.
“I’ll get... red wine,” I muttered.
“Noted,” the waiter replied, excusing himself with a polite bow.
“So, while we wait, how about we talk about future plans?” I asked Lisa, watching her as she seemed lost in thought. My gaze drifted briefly to her servants, their expressions tense and watchful, as if every word I said was being scrutinized.
“I’ll try my best to establish proper diplomatic contact with Cignus once I return,” Lisa said after a moment.
“Yeah, do that. Otherwise, we’ll likely end up at war in the coming years if things are left unmitigated,” I replied bluntly.
The tension in the room subtly spiked at my words. Her servants irked at our exchanged, their uneasy glances to each other is evidence, clearly alarmed or irritated by my straightforward mention of war, especially while they were far from home and currently in my backyard.
“Do you have plans to act on this?” Lisa asked, her tone curious.
“Given the non-stop invasions from your country over the last decade, I can hardly ignore it,” I said matter-of-factly. “If your country reaches our doorstep, I’ll consider it a provocation.”
She remained silent, staring at me blankly.
This is... embarrassing.
What are you doing? Is this a staring contest?
I wanted to avert my eyes, but I couldn’t. She looked so much like from my first life—other than being blonde—that it was almost no difference. No, it was more than that. It made her... what should I say? More alluring? More striking than ever? The nostalgia to her I hadn’t seen in eight years stirred something in me.
