Utter nightmare...

Utter despair...

No words could truly encapsulate the overwhelming devastation sweeping across the borders of Kashim. For three straight days, three nations had faced the unbridled wrath of Cignus, leaving a unspeakable wake of annihilation. The casualties were unthinkable, the devastation was beyond unimaginable.

“This is ridiculous!” one Aloran official shouted, his voice trembling. The chaos in the chamber mirrored the chaos outside. Reports had streamed in about the Cignus forces attacking day and night without pause.

“They’ve slaughtered everyone,” another official said grimly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Old, young, men, women—civilians, soldiers—it doesn’t matter. They kill them all.”

Another slammed his fist onto the table. “Adaxea and the other two countries will cease to exist by the end of this week. Cignus spares no one. Their advance is relentless, leaving no prisoners, no slaves. Adaxea’s capital is burning as we speak. Half the city is ablaze after their aerial bombardment this morning.”

A third official, pale and drenched in sweat, added, “The kings of Adaxea and the other Kashim states have issued orders to abandon any cities or towns made of wood. They’re nothing but fuel for the fires once Cignus decides to attack.”

The room fell into an silence, broken only by the shuffling of panicked feet and the occasional murmur of disbelief. The horror of what was unfolding beyond their borders was permeating in the air.

“Furthermore,” another official began, his voice shaking, “a massive army of Cignus’s metal beasts is nearing our border. Their spies report it’s only a matter of time before they cross over. Adaxea has already fallen, or it will by tonight.”

One of the younger officials, his face pale with terror, stood suddenly. “Why?!” he demanded. “Didn’t we send our surrender to Cignus? We offered our independence! We didn’t even get hit by their planes! Why won’t they accept it?”

The room descended into a chatter of panicked voices, each trying to make sense of the unstoppable force that loomed ever closer.

“Why won’t they stop?”

“They’ve ignored our envoys entirely!”

“They’ll slaughter us all!”

Amidst the panicking, all eyes turned toward their king, who sat silently, his face a mask of despair. His hands trembled ever so slightly, unable to suppress it. One of his vassals, an elderly who had served the royal family for decades, knelt before him, his voice filled with urgency and pleading.

“My king, you must flee,” the vassal begged. “This kingdom is doomed. We lack the soldiers to fight, and we cannot even hope to slow down Cignus’s advance. They will slaughter everyone in their path! Please, save yourself while there’s still time!”

The king looked out the window, his gaze fixed on the horizon where faint plumes of smoke rose in the distance. But where could he run? Where could any of them run?

But as if hope appeared on the horizon, a figure stood at the chamber door. It was Leticia, one of the first Kashim personnel to establish contact with Cignus years ago.

“Leticia?” someone uttered, recognizing her immediately. She was a crucial figure, one of the reasons Aloran hadn’t been attacked thus far. After the disastrous Eastern Continent Conference meeting, she had immediately requested her country’s surrender to Cignus, earning the ire of some but protecting Aloran from immediate devastation.
