Nostalgia.
Is that the right word for this feeling? My mind refused to understand it, yet it lingered.
“Your Excellency Oliver, Duke of Cignus, Sovereign of the Federation,” she introduced herself with poise. The person standing before me, so familiar yet so different—older, with a different hair color, a more composed demeanor, and an aura that felt foreign yet unmistakably tied to someone I once knew. “I am the First Princess of Holy Sanctium, Lizette Yavin Wealk y Sanctium, a descendant of the rulers of the Wealk Monarchy. It is my honor to make your acquaintance.” Her smile... it was hauntingly reminiscent of the past.
“Lis...” The name almost slipped from my lips. Her blue, jewel-like eyes, long golden hair, and the simple elegance of her dress—she was unmistakably her.
Now I understand.
Cecily, so this is why you spoke those words.
Why you urged me to meet her.
Because it truly is her.
I quickly composed myself, snapping back to the present. “What a mesmerizing name, befitting the beauty you exude, Princess,” I replied smoothly, extending my hand toward her.
“You flatter me,” she said softly, her smile deepening as her hand clasped mine firmly.
We shook hands briefly before parting, and yet her warmth lingered long after.
“Umm,” as our eyes met, my mind went blank. I couldn’t say what I intended, or rather, I had nothing to say.
“Did you wish to say something?” she asked, breaking the silence.
“Uh, that’s...” I struggled to respond.
“He’s head over heels for you, Princess,” a voice chimed from my side, accompanied by a playful grin. The remark immediately drew surprised looks from the Sanctium side and my men, who quickly reached for their guns, escalating the tension.
“Please, lower your guns,” Lizette said, attempting to deescalate the situation, while I raised my hand to signal my men to stand down.
Lizette, Lisa, murmured quietly, covering her mouth. “What a playful child,” she remarked with a motherly tone. Meanwhile, her men remained alert, still unsure how this person had appeared out of nowhere.
“Where did you go?” I asked Cecily, who was standing beside me.
“Strolling around.”
“Don’t be vague,” I replied, patting her head lightly. She looked like a kitten.
“In the city’s streets, it’s nice to enjoy the freedom,” she explained.
“I see.” what a free kid, sighing internally. I finally managed to collect my thoughts.
“So, Princess Lizette, you wish to meet this lady?”
“Yes. Do you mind if I do? Would it be rude to meet her in your presence, Your Excellency?”
“No, if it’s a request from the Princess of Sanctium, I might as well partake, if you may?.”
“As you wish.”
“Thank you.”
The exchange of words caught everyone by surprise.
“Princess, shall we inspect the meeting room and select an attendant?”
“No, I am alone. His Excellency Oliver and that young lady are my focus. None of us are concerned with such trivial details.”
“Princess, he’s a man.”
