Season 1 Episode 7: Karma's a Bitch

The 118 came to a stop at the scene. "We've been here before." Hen said, as they all got out of the trucks. "When?" Buck asked curiously. "Before you joined us, kid." Bobby said as he looked at the tree. "It was about a year ago, got a call said she hung herself from the tree. But uh none of it sat right with us." Vivienne explained to Buck. They began moving towards the man that was on the ground. Hen cut away his shirt before handing Vivienne a large pad of gauze. "The bullet she fired at him." Bobby said as he realized what happened looking at Hen and his daughter. "Did it fly out of the tree when he blew it up?" Hen asked Bobby. He shook his head for a second then exhaled and stopped moving. Vivienne checked for a pulse and found nothing. She shook her head and let them know he was gone. "Karma's a bitch." Hen said causing Vivienne to giggle.

The next day, Chimney had set up a blood drive. Vivienne went over and signed up for it. "So I want to thank everybody for donating today. I don't know if you know this or not, but 90% of all the blood given to patients in the Los Angeles area comes from volunteers. I know that we all put our asses on the line in the field every day to save people, but today, you're saving people, and all it's taking is a tiny prick of a needle. So simple, even Mr. Buckley can't mess that up." Chimney said as he teased Buck. Buck gave him a salute. "You still at it, huh? How'd you do?" Bobby asked, coming over to check it out. "Incredible. Everyone donated. Some people even came in on their day off." Chimney said to Bobby. "That's great. All right, well, let's wrap it up. We got to start our shift." Bobby said to him. "Uh, hold on. Looks here like I am two pints shy of my goal for the day." Chimney said as he looked at Bobby. "Well, that'll give you something to work towards next time." Bobby said as Vivienne looked between her best friend and father. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You're the captain of this house, and you're the only one who didn't participate." Chimney said to him. "I don't like needles, end of story." Bobby said and walked away. "Oh come on, Captain. You got to donate." Hen said as she looked at Bobby. "I don't give blood. All right? I never give blood. When I was a kid, they tried to take my blood, and I bit the doctor." Bobby tells them as Hen, Chimney, and Buck begin to laugh. Vivienne turns to them and glares. "Hey! It's not funny." She said as she glared at them. "And the one time someone tried to take my blood as an adult didn't go well." Bobby tells them. "All right, listen, I get it. I really do, okay? But I really need you to do this for me, all right? Look... I'm alive because that rebar hit my head at just the right angle, and because I had the best damn fire and rescue team to get me to the hospital and the best surgeons in the world once I got there. But I got ten pints of blood, donated blood, given by the very generous people of this city. Now, I told you, I just... I wanted to do this blood drive cause I wanted to give a little something back of what I was given. And expressing my gratitude like this, it balances me out with the universe. Now, you and everybody else here asked me how they could help with my recovery. Well, this is how." Chimney said as Vivienne, Hen, and Buck came to stand beside him. They all looked at Bobby. "I hate all of you, but Gracie." Bobby said to them, causing Vivienne to smirk. "Thank you. Thank you." Chimney said before walking off. "You love us." Hen said to him. "Here, you're gonna need this. Just squeeze it." Buck said before tossing Bobby the stress ball. "All right, let's stick him!" Chimney said excitedly. Vivienne looks over at her dad. "I'm sorry bout him." Vivienne tells her dad softly. Bobby just smiled. "It's okay, Gracie." He said as he went to give blood.

The group then went to the next call of their shift. "Okay, so I came in early to turn in my keys and-and pick up my paycheck. He actually fired me yesterday. It's a whole story. Anyway, I, um.. I smelled something burning." The girl led them to where her ex boss was laying on a tanning bed. "We all kept trying to tell him to get it fixed. Oh, my god. I didn't think to do that." The girl said as Hen unplugged the machine. "How long has he been in there?" Hen asked her. "I don't know. He's the owner, so sometimes he comes in before we open, so two hours, maybe three?" The girl said. "What do you think, Chim, Gracie? Is he dead?" Bobby asked Chimney and Vivienne as the two checked on him. "Worse." Vivienne tells her father as she and Chimney looked at him. "I think he's alive." Chimney adds. "Why the hell didn't he just get out?" Buck asked. "Might have had a stroke." Vivienne tells Buck. "He's 32." The girl tells the team. "Technically, anyone could have a stroke at any age." Vivienne tells the girl. "What was he on? We need to know." Bobby tells the girl. "I don't know." The girl said. "32, may have had a stroke; drugs could be an underlying cause. Now what was he on?" Bobby pushed the subject. "Everything, okay? He was stacking." The girl said. "Steroids?" Bobby said as Chimney tries to revive him. "He's in V-tach." Chimney said. "Starting compressions" Hen said as she began to do them. "No, he's gone." Chimney announced. "Oh, my god." The girl starts to get hysterical. "Whoa, whoa. Easy." Buck went to comfort the girl. "It's just too freaky. I mean after what happened with Mindy. I told him. I said, 'Barry, what goes around comes around.'" The girl said. "Who's Mindy?" Vivienne asked the question everyone was thinking. The girl began to tell them what happened.
