"Fire and rescue. Hello?" Bobby calls out as the team goes to a new call. "I'm back here. Help me." They hear someone call out that's muffled. "Some kind of militia nut?" Buck asked them. Vivienne nudged her elbow into Buck's side. "Ow." He mumbles. "I'm back..." The voice called out again but was muffled. The team follows the voice. "Can't tell where that voice is coming from." Bobby said as they tried to locate the voice. "Back here." The voice said from the door they passed. The team enters the room. "Oh thank god." The man said from the room as they entered. "Hey. What's your name sir?" Vivienne asked them as they went over to help him. "Charlie." Charlie tells her. "All right, tell us what happened, Charlie." She said as she began working on him. "Damn grenade went off while I was taking it apart." Charlie tells her. "Why are you taking apart a grenade?" Buck asked him as he helped his best friend. "I was cleaning it. I'm a collector." Charlie said to them. "No kidding." Vivienne said in amazement. "You pulled the pin?" Buck asked him. "Oh, it ain't that kind of grenade. It's a 40-mike-mike. A practice round for an M203 grenade launcher. I picked it up at a flea market in Brea, part of my 'Nam collection. My screwdriver must of have touched the propelling charge. I..." Charlie said to him. "All right, I see metal, a lot of shrapnel. Femoral artery has been nicked. We got to get him transported now." Vivienne tells her dad.
They get him out of the house and on the gurney. "I've got an adult male, age 65, with a large piece of shrapnel in his right thigh. Femoral artery damage with profuse bleeding, ten minutes out." Vivienne tells the driver. "Buck, I want you to travel with him and Gracie to the hospital, keep him stable." Bobby tells him. "Copy that, Cap." Buck tells him. "Hey. You got to learn how to play nice. It's one team, Buck." Bobby tells him softly. "Hey, Nash, am I gonna be all right?" Charlie asked him. "My boys and my daughter got you. But you might want to consider switching to collecting baseball cards after this." Bobby said, as Buck sat down next to Vivienne.
As Buck, Vivienne, and Eddie work on Charlie, Buck talks to Eddie. "I guess you've seen a lot of shrapnel wounds." Buck said to Eddie. "My share." Eddie said to him. "You ever seen a guy with a length of rebar stuck through his skull?" Buck asked him. Vivienne's eyes widened. "Evan Buckley!" Vivienne shouted at him. "What are we measuring here, Buck?" Eddie asked him, noting how Vivi's shout at the mention of the rebar through someone's skull. They hear Charlie moan. "Need to change those dressings. They're soaking through. Hang in there, Charlie. Almost there." Vivienne tells Buck before talking to Charlie in a calm voice, causing Eddie to smile at the tone of her voice. "I'm just saying, working the streets of LA is not exactly stress free. May not bee the same kind of pressure you have in a war zone, but..." Buck began saying before Eddie noticed the grenade. "Oh, come on. I thought you said this was a practice round." Eddie said to them. "It is." Charlie tells him. "Uh, what-what-what's going on?" Buck asked nervously. Vivienne noticed the tension. "Eddie, what's going on?" She asked with a scared tone in her voice. "You see that cap? Practice rounds have blue caps. Gold caps are live. Pull over!!" Eddie yelled to the driver. Vivienne's eyes widened.
"Yep. There she is." Jim said as he showed the X-Ray of Charlie's leg. "He's got a live round embedded in his thigh." Bobby said. "Uh, I thought this thing had already went off." Buck said. "The launch grenade has two components: gunpowder which makes it travel and an explosive charge that makes it go boom." Eddie explains. "Okay, so why didn't this one go boom?" Buck asked him. "It's fitted with a proximity fuse. It's a little smart sensor that tells the cap it's traveled a safe enough distance from the shooter to explode. From his hand to his leg probably wasn't far enough." Eddie explains to them. "Well, we can't bring him inside a hospital full of people, not with that junk still inside of him." Bobby said. "We called the military for help." Jim said to them. "The military? Uh, can't you do it?" Buck asked him. "You are the bomb squad." Vivienne said with a pointed look. "You can't diffuse a grenade. We need to find someone who knows how to pull that thing out of him without setting it off. They're sending someone from Pendleton. Should be here within the hour." Jim said. "He doesn't have an hour." Vivienne tells him. "I can do it. If he doesn't go to surgery soon, he'll die." Eddie said to them. "You've done this before?" Bobby asked him. "Well, none of the guys I served with were dumb enough to shoot a live round in themselves, but I'm familiar with the ordnance." Eddie said to him. After a brief silence, Buck spoke. "I'm in." Buck said. Vivienne looked between the two and her father. "Me too." She said to them. "Gracie, what are you doing?" Bobby asked her. "I'm helping them, dad, whether you like it or not, they need me." Vivienne tells him. Bobby smiled proudly before going over to Eddie and Buck. "Whatever you do, do not kill my daughter, get it?" He asked them. The two nods their heads.
