"Good day, everyone. Please have a seat." The room settled into silence. "As you may know, the Valur Empire, apparently one of the most powerful nations of eastern civilization, began to invade Mineas Forest to exploit their natural resources and expand their territories." Entirely lies, they're weaker than I anticipated, but all politicians lie all the time. "If their rate of advance doesn't slow down, then they will likely be a few meters away from our borders and surely, definitely going to threaten our people with enslavement or war."
The murmurs of concern grew louder, even as a staged joke like this. Some of these people is actually afraid of some crumbling medieval era civilization.
"Thus, I, President of Cignus, am here to confirm whether we have the ability to prevent these warmongers from stepping over our borders. We have only a few weeks left. Hesitating now would result in regret later. Firstly, General Smith, how many troops do you think are enough to completely destroy those 80,000 men sent by the empire? Including how much time is needed and resources that would be poured sufficiently to take them down in the process?"
"Mr. President." General Smith, an old man with white hair and a beard, stepped forward. He was the most troublesome and annoying officer of mine, doing a lot of unnecessary blunders and actions that tend to be as ridiculous as these. His military uniform was nearly identical to the US Army combat uniform. "Difficult but not impossible. We have 56,000 men in active and reserve service. We could send half of them to conduct symmetric or guerilla warfare against the Imperials and deal devastating casualties enough to force them to withdraw, but I'd like to emphasize our supplies can't last that long in a conflict with the empire."
"How long could we last?" I asked, dreading the answer.
"At the very least, six weeks of intensive military action, but I think one or two weeks is enough to deal enough casualties that could force them to temporarily withdraw or totally abort their invasion."
"I see... Send another diplomatic team to the Kashim and relay our words of protest to the Empire about their aggressive expansionist movements. If this fails, call for arms."
The farce meeting was dismissed and photographed by the paparazzi. After that, I returned to my office, feeling the immense responsibility of over a million lives pressing down on me. Rather than the threat of the empire, it was the anarchy that would follow once our industries dismantle, with no actual military to stop these lowlifes from invading as our techy weapons don't have spare parts or can't be maintained. These problems shouldn't have happened in the first place. A few months ago, I was just a normal college student. Now, I had the fate of an entire nation in my hands.
Leipzig Air Base
At the busiest airbase in Cignus, there were dozens of AH-64 attack helicopters warming up on the runway. Behind them, eight F-14B Super Tomcats were loaded with cluster bombs, each carrying four Mk 20 Rockeye II, capable of dispensing 247 Mk 118 Rockeye submunitions, a HEAT bomblet. Additionally, twelve F-20s were being serviced, loaded with firebombs and white phosphorus.
"The situation is rather precarious," Brandon said, not feeling any form of pressure.
"The president said you don't have to use overwhelming force. If it's overkill, don't use unnecessary weapons," said the government official sent by Oliver to check the situation.
"I understand the governor... Mister President's concern," Brandon uttered politely and smiled back. "However, there's nothing overkill about using this much against 80,000 enemies, right?" he said, informing the official.
"They're medieval era, or a bit better than that with cannons but nothing significant," assessed the official.
"Eighty thousand men is eighty thousand men. That's eight divisions' worth of enemies. They can still pose a threat to us," Brandon reasoned without losing a heartbeat..
