Snake slowly blinked his eyes open. He was laying in a nest of moss.
Where am I? How did I get here? Snake asked silently.
He tried to sit up but one of his front legs wouldn't support him.
Fluff. Is there something wrong with my leg? Snake let out a quiet hiss of frustration.
What happened? Snake remembered passing out, but what happened next was a mystery. I attacked Slash to defend the kits. And then I almost died. What happened next? Confusion coursed through him. He couldn't find a reasonable explanation as to what could have happened.
Snake tried sitting up again, this time not using his left front leg. I can't believe I can't use my leg. It'll probably be fine once it heals. He tried to assure himself. It didn't do much though.
The entrance to the den rustled and Snake looked up.
Clear Sky walked into the den. His gaze was unreadable as he watched Snake.
Why is it so hard to meet his gaze? Is that what happens when you hate a cat this much? You don't want to even look at them? Snake asked himself, becoming even more confused.
The two toms stared at each other for a long time. Then finally, Clear Sky spoke. "I appreciate you standing against Slash."
Is it so difficult to just say 'Thanks for saving my kit'? This is why no one likes you. Snake thought, annoyed. "I would never hurt a kit. Unlike you apparently." Snake's tone lacked emotion, he was too tired to act sly.
Clear Sky slid out his claws. "That was moons ago." he growled.
"So what?" Snake scoffed, his tone still flat.
Clear Sky narrowed his gaze. "Listen, if you didn't save my daughter you would be dead right now. Don't push your luck." he threatened.
Snake huffed. "Fine. I'll stop pointing out how much of a fox-heart you are." He still couldn't force any slyness into his voice.
Clear Sky's eye twitched. He was clearly making an effort to ignore what Snake had just said. Which was a bit admirable. "So, what are you going to do now?"
Snake eyed Clear Sky. Trying to see if there were any other emotions than anger and annoyance in his gaze. Probably not. It was Clear Sky after all. "Probably go live on my own. What else would I do?" it was a retorical question, but Clear Sky answered.
"Acually, because you helped SkyClan fight against Slash, I feel that it is not unreasonable to offer you a place in SkyClan." He informed Snake.
I hate the way he's talking, he clearly rehearsed this. Who'd you ask to make you this speech? Snake thought irritatedly. "Really? That's surprising." he said in a purposefully irritating tone.
Clear Sky was beginning to look visibily agitated. (Other than his gaze) Who knew what that meant his actual emotion was. "Are you going to accept the offer or not?"
"Yes. I accept." Snake mewed distainfully.
Clear Sky flicked his tail. "Alright then."
Now leave me alone you fox-hearted rat. Snake thought, laying back down.

***Flash back***

Snake let out a pained cry as he landed to the ground.
"Shut up brat!" Mist snapped.
Snake cringed back and scurried over to Lizard.
Roach was flung into the middle of the clearing. The six moon old she-kit showed no fear. She met Mist's gaze bravely. "You don't scare me! I will not tolerate your evilness!" she snarled, being incredibly well spoken for her age.
Mist smirked. "Well then. . . You shall face the punishment of a traitor, death!"
Snake let out a wail of fear, terror stabbed through him like a bolt of lighting.
Roach glanced at him. "I'm sorry little brother." the albino she-cat turned back to Mist. "Fine. But I don't fear you. No matter what."
Mist flicked his tail and a group of rouges jumped on Roach.
Lizard shrieked. Snake stepped in front of her in a feeble attempt to keep her from seeing the gore in front of them.
Snake squeezed his eyes shut as shrieks of pain and the sound of tearing flesh. He was shaking, he almost fell down.
And then Snake made the mistake of slightly opening his eyes. Almost immediately he regretted it. Roach was being torn to shreds, the rouges ripping out chunks of her flesh.
Snake closed his eyes again. Tears flooding down his face then splattering to the ground.
Then the screams of agony abruptly stopped. Snake didn't dare look up.
Mist started maniacally laughing. "Let this be a lesson to the rest of you! Never betray me!" he called.
Snake backed away, Lizard at his side.
"You have crossed the line." A voice filled with grief and hatred spoke.
Mist looked down at him. "Oh and what are you going to do about it One Eye?" he taunted.
One Eye flicked his tail. "Leave. It's one thing when you kill trespassers or mark cats, but killing my best friend's kit. Oh I will not tolerate that!" he snarled.
Pink Eyes stood at his side. "Exactly. Did you really think I would stay here after you killed my kit?!"
Mist looked to stunned to speak for a while.
And during that time One Eye and Pink Eyes picked up Snake and Lizard, then left the camp.
Snake wanted to cry. But he had already cried too much that day. His tears had run dry.
One Eye set Snake down. "I'll go get my kits, you stay with your two."
Pink Eyes nodded.
Snake stared at his father's best friend. "Are you going to die too?" He asked, his voice shaking.
One Eye rested his tail on Snake's shoulder. "No. I promise I'll be back."
Snake nodded slightly a few times. Please come back. He prayed.
