: Gaining Trust :
Snake woke up and noticed sunlight was streaming into his den. Why didn't Clear Sky wake me up? He wondered. Then a bolt of fear struck him. What if Clear Sky was angry that Snake had snapped at him?! What if they were going to break up?! What if Clear Sky didn't love him anymore?!
Snake quickly stumbled out of his den. He tripped over his own paws and falling to the ground.
“Are you alright?” Clear Sky had rushed over.
Snake looked up at the large grey tom. “I-I’m sorry about yesterday!” he stammered.
Clear Sky blinked. “It’s fine.” he helped Snake up.
Snake stared at him in shock. “It is?” he questioned, used to similar situations ending terribly.
Clear Sky nodded. Concern visible in his blue eyes.
Snake looked down, feeling a wave of shame. How dare he think such terrible things about his mate! Of course Clear Sky still loved him! Why am I such an idiot?! Why can't I do anything right?!
Clear Sky laid his tail on Snake’s shoulder, cutting him from his self loathing thoughts. “What happened yesterday?” he asked.
Snake refused to meet his mate’s gaze. “I. . .”
Clear Sky led Snake over to a secluded area of camp.
Snake sat down. Feeling conforted by Clear Sky’s soft fur brushing against him. “Well. . . Cats have kind of been spreading rumors about me.” that was probably the simpilist way to put it.
Clear Sky’s eyes narrowed. “Like what?” he prompted.
Snake took a deep breath. Then he just let everything poor out. “Me and Thorn used to be together. But soon after we broke up I got with a tom named Owl. Owl would yell at me for the littlest things, and claw me. . . It all went wrong when Owl tried to kill me. . . I ran away. And ended up here. You were the first cat here I met when I first joined. . . I was unbelievably greatful for you taking me in. I still am. But I guess someone heard about me and Owl and decided to twist the narrative against me.” he finished, not having stopped for air during his entire explanation.
Clear Sky suddenly pulled Snake close to him. “Snake. . . I. . . I am so sorry you went through that. I wish you'd told me. I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure cats stop harassing you. Snake you mean so much to me. And I hope you know that.” he nuzzled Snake’s cheek.
Snake choked up. He hadn't expected this response. He felt tears slipping down his cheeks. He buried himself in Clear Sky’s fur. Clear Sky was safe. One of the few cats he knew he could trust with his life.
Owl wasn't normal. Most cats were not like him. Owl had been the exception and not the norm. Mates were not supposed to treat each other like wastes of space. They were supposed to care about and love each other.
“I love you.” Snake choked out.
“And I love you. You mean so much more to me than I will ever be able to express.” Clear Sky whispered softly.
Snake looked up at Clear Sky. “Thank you for everything.” he purred.
Clear Sky gave his cheek an affectionate lick. “You are very welcome.”
I don't know what you've done with Clear Sky. But I think I like you better. Snake thought. Half closing his eyes. The cat watched. Fine. You're protective of Scale. I'll give you that. But I'm still going to be watching. Slip up once I dare you. Go on. Do it. See how badly it ends for you. With his silent rant done. He turned and slunk away.

Everytime Snake is insecure about his relationship I want to cry. I am so attached to this character. Next chapter will be a wholesome one.
