Clear Sky was hunting with Red Claw and Acorn Fur.
A shrew scuttled out into the open. Clear Sky glanced over at Acorn Fur, who was closest to it.
Acorn Fur nodded and dropped into a hunting crouch. She silently and gracefully stalked over to it. The shrew was unaware of the brown she-cat’s presence. It barely had time to react as Acorn Fur grabbed it and snapped its neck.
“Great work!” Clear Sky praised.
Red Claw bounded over to Acorn Fur. “That was amazing!”
Acorn Fur nuzzled him. “Thank you.”
Red Claw purred loudly. “You are so welcome.”
Acorn Fur nudged Red Claw playfully. “I’d like to see you hunt now.” she teased.
Red Claw looked away in embarrassment. “It wouldn't compare to you.” he fidgeted.
Clear Sky rolled his eyes. I’m glad me and Snake don't act that cringe worthy. He thought. It was so obvious the two young cats had feelings for each other, the only question was when they'd get together officially.
Clear Sky padded over to where the rest of the hunts catch was. They'd caught three robins, two mice and a rabbit.
Then he paused as an unsettling feeling washed over him. His fur prickled and he looked around. He could swear something -or someone- was watching him.
Suddenly the forest seemed deathly quiet. Clear Sky looked around nervously. There's something wrong here. I can feel it.
Acorn Fur padded over to Clear Sky. “Is something wrong?” she asked.
Clear Sky flexed his claws. “Do you hear anything?” he asked, pricking his ears.
Acorn Fur tipped her head. “No, should I?”
Clear Sky shook his head. “I don't either.”
Red Claw paused. “It seems too quiet.” his voice shook slightly.
“Exactly.” Clear Sky agreed. “Let’s go back to camp.” he picked up some of the prey.
The other two nodded and grabbed the rest.
Clear Sky wasn't sure why he wasn't angry that someone could be trespassing. There was some instinct telling him to be scared. And he was going to listen to it. Once I know what the threat is I can deal with it. But right now I don't know what I'm up against. He risked one last glance over his shoulder before taking the lead back to camp. The cat watched. The fact your mouse-brained self can't scent me only goes to show how incompetent you are. You noticed me, but don't know who I am. My fur gets caught in the brambles and you don't see it. My claws scrape across the forest floor but you appear deaf to it. One day you'll find me. And that day you might die. I'm hesitating more and more each day. He whisked his fluffy yellow tabby tail. Watch your back Clear Sky, because one day my claws will be digging into it. He turned and stalked away with one last glance at the disappearing pelts.
