Just who is Saint Lisa to him? Is she perhaps an acquaintance? I racked my brain. Even with the information from the crown princess and others, Lord Oliver had no known romantic partners or even rumored lovers, other than having the crown princess as his ex-fiancée. More rounds of gunfire resounded, but the sound of metallic clangs reverberated. A similar barrier appeared around Natius, I narrowed my eyes at the situation as all the bullets fired by Lord Oliver bounced off.
"This is... this must be divine intervention! You and your heretic weapon won't harm me any longer!" he said, trembling as he clutched his bleeding leg.
"So annoying," Lord Oliver replied. "Blow him up, and we'll wrap things up here." He stepped back, and soon one of his men pulled out a gun—a pistol? But the bore was large enough to be portable. He loaded a large bullet with a red coating into the chamber, snapped it into place, and aimed it at the bleeding Natius.
"It's pointless," Natius gasped.
"Let's see whether a 40mm can’t blow that shield up," Lord Oliver said, raising his hand as if to pass judgment. The so-called 40mm fired with a strange thud, and an explosion resonated with a shockwave, smoke and debris scattering everywhere.
Boom!
The people around us shouted and ran away as the situation escalated.
"What in the hell?" I opened my eyes, and the remains of Natius were just a bloodied puddle of flesh, organs, and a barely intact lower body, the upper half was completely obliterated.
An unpleasant end.
"Esteemed guest from Cignus, why kill the apostle of the goddess? Your rage is unreasonable." A voice resounded in my ears, like a whisper, interjecting on this chaos. "Calm down." Those words soothed my heart, but immediately the high elf on our side warned us.
"Mental attack, Your Excellency."
"Some kind of brainwashing? Or hypnosis?" Lord Oliver said indifferently.
"Similar to that. Don't be swayed by her words, any of you. Let it enter through the left ear and exit through the right. No need to heed or care about it," she cautioned.
"How do we prevent it?" Lord Oliver asked.
"With a spirit barrier like this, sheer willpower, a higher mana reserve, or by interrupting her from talking," the high elf explained.
"So, shutting her up is the best course of action if we don't have a barrier like this?" he clarified.
"Yes," she confirmed.
"Like this."
I watched Lady Emily, confused as to why her magic seemed ineffective.
"Once again. Esteemed—"
Bang! Bang!
More shots rang out from Lord Oliver and his men, aimed at the Marjorie clergy. Lady Emily froze, shocked, and just as the high elf said, the soothing effect vanished immediately. However, all the bullets were deflected.
"Why do they keep having magical barriers up?" Lord Oliver muttered in irritation.
As the stalemate continued, the sound of footsteps echoed through the room, drawing everyone's attention. Dozens of Norvogan soldiers entered, surrounding Prince Zava of Norvoga and Viscountess Daltine, the representative of Kashim.
"What is the meaning of this?" Prince Zava shouted.
"Your Highness, the ruler of Cignus has become violent in this peaceful conference room, killing the apostle of the goddess and clearly losing his mind," accused Lady Emily, immediately implying her plea for help.
