And so, Bronto waited with a can of beer. This year’s conference, the 1642 Eleven Countries Conference, was particularly exciting. It had been unofficially renamed as "Eleven Countries International Leadership Conference +2" as the number thirteen—considered an omen by Milishial’s elven-dominated society—was avoided. The real excitement, however, came from the four new powers.
Six years ago, these powers had appeared in Vestal, swiftly defeating Parpaldia in a regional war, and since then, they’d remained largely isolationist. These are the Holy Sanctium Empire and the Cignus Federation.
Then, there was Japan, the third civilization sphere's champion, who had defeated the rising power Lauria and, despite some tarnishing, had defeated, balkanized, and replaced Parpaldia as the dominant superpower in the East.
Lastly, there was the Gra Valkas Empire, which had conquered the mighty Leifor with a single battleship.
Bronto could hardly contain his excitement. He couldn’t wait to see these powers in action. What kind of technology did they possess? What philosophical designs shaped their ships? His military nerd blood was pumping in anticipation.
Just then, a commotion broke out among the lookouts and port workers. A massive ship, nearly as large as a castle, appeared on the horizon, growing steadily larger as it approached. Even Bronto, who was intimately familiar with Milishial’s magic ships, stood speechless, captivated by the sheer majesty of the warship.
“Gra Valkas Empire! One battleship!”
“Damn! Those cannons are huge—almost like the Mythril class!”
“Clear the way! I’m taking photos!”
It was truly a sight to behold.
The ship was a 262-meter-long battleship weighing over 70,000 tons. The pride and flagship of the Gra Valkas Empire, the Grade Alastar, was armed with three triple 18-inch cannons, four triple 6-inch cannons, 64 quadruple 25mm armored turrets, and six twin 5-inch high-angle guns. It was a floating fortress with an overwhelming array of firepower. As it sailed into port, the ships from Torquia and Agarta looked like toys in comparison.
He was mesmerized by the sight of the majestic ship.
“Chief! Three countries! Japan, Holy Sanctium Empire, and Cignus Federation have arrived!” The words snapped him back to reality. He quickly raised his binoculars to the horizon.
First came two white ships, one resembling a slim cruiser and the other a massive passenger vessel. Their flags, white and red at the center, unmistakably signaled Japan. However, as he squinted at the decks of the Japanese ship, something caught his attention. “Small,” he muttered, noting how the 35mm guns appeared surprisingly underwhelming for a ship of its size. The Shikishima class, a 150-meter-long offshore vessel of the Japanese Coast Guard, was designed to escort plutonium ships back to Earth, but it seemed oddly modest compared to the warships he had anticipated.
The guns, while powerful by the standards of this world, seemed disproportionately small. “It’s shaped weird... despite its size being comparable to Silver-class cruisers,” he mused. His excitement about Japan quickly faded as he realized that, while the vessel was certainly powerful in its own right, it wasn't the impressive as he had imagined. The 35mm guns would likely be more than enough to handle the sailing ship-dominant forces like Parpaldia of this world, or the ship could simply outrun them to avoid danger. He lost all interest in Japan, feeling disappointed by the reality of the country's military presence.
But then, not far behind, thick plumes of dark smoke rose from the horizon. A convoy of massive, dark silhouettes appeared, rivaling even the Gra Valkas Empire flagship. It was the opposite of the Zeroth Fleet—devoid of any grace or beauty, but instead a floating citadel of raw, unyielding practicality.
