With all the attendees now accounted for, Bronto sighed. “Our job here is done. Call Eihra—he’ll take over for me. I’m going ship-spotting for a closer inspection.” He handed over his responsibilities with barely concealed glee, already planning to snap close-up photos of the warships for his personal collection.
“That’s unfair, Chief!”
“You’re ditching us?!”
Ignoring the pleas of his subordinates, Bronto hummed in satisfaction, his military nerd instincts overriding his sense of duty as he made his way to satisfy his curiosity and admiration for the modern marvels of war.
Port of Catralpas
The salty, whipping breeze of the sea filled the air, accompanied by the distant cries of seagulls circling overhead. The scene was lively with a multiracial society bustling around, their variety of clothing and languages reflecting the global gathering. Towering skyrise buildings stood proud on the horizon, and the clean, orderly roads shimmered under the sun.
Now that’s what you call it—a nice breeze of air.
“Yup, so this is Milishial, one of their cities,” I said as I stepped down from the ramparts.
“One of their best, largest, and richest cities, Mr. President,” came a polite reply from my side.
“I see that. Certainly worthy of hosting such an international meeting,” I responded, glancing at Leo, my advisor and companion on this trip.
“Mr. President, as Lady Cecily said, that incident will happen here, correct?”
“Yeah,” I replied nonchalantly.
“I don’t think it’s very wise for you to be here if we know what’s coming,” Leo said, his concern evident.
“We’ll leave before the city gets bombed, obviously.” I winked at him, trying to put him at ease. “Besides, I haven’t seen them in a while.”
“It’s been two days, sir. I don’t believe that qualifies as a while,” he responded bluntly.
“Haha, don't be salty,” I chuckled, brushing off his remark.
As I continued down the rampart, my attention turned to the massive battleships of Sanctium docked nearby. A group of decorated soldiers began setting up a bridge, preparing for the dignitaries to disembark. Among them, two familiar faces caught my eye, their presence sparking anticipation and nostalgia as my lips turned to smile.
“I’m just reminding you. No flirting,” Leo said with a pointed look.
“What? I’m working,” I retorted. “Taking care of our only trusted ally’s representative is literally part of my job.”
Leo raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t marry them, yet you have children with those princesses. And let’s not forget the second time—when Lady… Princess Cecily got pregnant. Emperor Ronald almost declared war on our country.”
I sighed and laughed bitterly. “I wanted to take responsibility, but Lisa’s father and brother wouldn’t allow it. Only the queen accepted me.” I rubbed the back of my neck, memories flooding back. “I didn’t mean to lay a hand on both his daughter and granddaughter and… well, impregnate them at the same time.”
I grimaced, recalling the fallout. It had taken two full years for Lisa’s family to figure out I was the father, given that neither Lisa nor Cecily had told anyone. No wonder her father harbored a deep hostility toward me. To this day, he wouldn’t acknowledge me as their husband, let alone as part of the family.
