Lunch break. At syempre, we decided to invade the nearest kalenderya. The place wasn't fancy---plastic chairs, mismatched tables, at menu na sulat-kamay pa sa bond paper.

"Vault, Kyan, kayo na bahala sa order," Prim commanded, busy fixing her hair while checking her reflection on her phone.

Kyan groaned. "Kami na naman? Wala bang may gustong mag volunteer d'yan?"

Vault smirked, already holding the small notebook where he always jotted down our chaotic orders. Oo, may pa notebook talaga! "Tanggapin mo na lang. This is our fate."

"Chicken adobo!" sigaw ni Aki, na nakakuha ng ilang mga titig mula sa iba pang mga customer.

"Kaldereta," added Xantie, flipping lazily through his notes.

"Lechon kawali, please," Rein chimed in, her voice barely audible over the noise.

"Pork sinigang," I said, leaning back in my chair. Tumingin ako kay Vault nang may ngisi sa labi. "Yung sinigang na literal ulan sa baso."

"Got it," he replied, his pen already moving.

While waiting, the group broke into smaller conversations. Prim and I argued about something trivial as usual, habang si Rein at Xantie were in deep discussion about some shits I couldn't and wouldn't understand.

Pagbalik nina Kyan at Vault with the food, it was chaos all over again. Plates were passed, drinks spilled, and laughter echoed through the small space.

"Leo," Rein called out after a while, her tone curious. "How's your research going? I heard Eliunous is your topic."

Napangiwi ako, slouching in my chair. "Wag mo nang ipa-alala. Every day, it feels like I'm one mistake away from being erased from existence."

"Research, or Eliunous?" singit ni Vault, sabay kagat ng pritong lumpia niya.

"Both," I shot back, scooping a generous amount of rice. Nag si tawanan sila.

Bago pa may makasagot ulit, biglang bumukas ang pinto ng kalenderya. Nag-iba agad ang vibe ng paligid. The usual buzz of chatter died down as sharp, deliberate footsteps echoed against the tiled floor.

The SSG officers. Napailing ako. Sila na naman? Talaga naman.

At the center of them was none other than Sylas Eliunous himself, cutting through the room like a blade. With him were Elian, Scar, Devina, and Puyo.
