"M'lady!" Fire smirked as he opened the door of his car for Twilight to step into. She giggled and made her way into the car.
"Thank you." She grinned.
Only a few minutes ago Fire had been speechless as Twilight had made her way to the car. She had been all dressed up and Fire could barely believe what he was seeing. Despite this, he had noticed something off about her. After Sunset had announced to all the friends about her and Flash, Twilight had become quiet. In the back of his mind he was sure that it was because Twilight loved Flash, but he didn't want to believe it. Yet as much as he liked Twilight, his main goal was to make her happy. He was ready to question her about it, and if she did truly love Flash, he was prepared to let her go. He would want her to tell Flash how she felt, there was still time for himself and Twilight to return to friendship if it was true. All he desired was Twilight's happiness and if that was with him, he'd be happy. If it was with Flash, he would let her go. It would hurt, but he would do it for her.
Twilight took her place in the car and Fire took his place behind the wheel and they began to drive. Their conversation was brief as Twilight stared out of the window, she was still quiet which mentally encouraged Fireshot to question Twilight. He remained silent until they reached the car park at the school.
"Hey, Twilight?" He began slowly, biting his lip. That was it, the conversation that would decide his and Twilight's future.
"Yes?" She looked up from what she was doing. She had been getting ready to leave the car by undoing her seatbelt and preparing to open the car.
"Can I ask you something?" He looked back towards Twilight in the car.
She nodded, a little confused. "Sure, what's up?"
"Answer honestly." He added to which she nodded again. "You've been quiet for a little while now. I've wanted to try and cheer you up, but it's been difficult as I couldn't work out what has been on your mind. But, I think I know now. You've been this way since Sunset announced to everyone her relationship with Flash."
At the mention of Flash's name Twilight looked down, avoiding eye contact with Fire.
"I'm sorry if this is sudden, or I sound harsh..." He took hold of her hands and squeezed them gently. "I just want to know how you feel, so I can help... Twilight... Do you love Flash?"
Twilight felt her face heat up and she sighed bowing her head even more and held her head in her hands. "I'm sorry Fire. I'm so so sorry for this." She looked up and met his eyes with hers.
Fire smiled weakly as he could see it in her eyes. He saw her answer before she even came out with it. She loved Flash.
"I really liked you Fire, I truly did, but there's something about Flash. He's been here with me for a longer time, and he came back for me. If I had waited a little longer for him, we'd be together right now. And... I don't want to deny it to you Fire... You deserve to know. I love Flash... I do..." She sighed sadly. "I am sorry."
Fire nodded. "I was right..." He cupped her head in his hands. "It's okay. I want you to be happy, you understand?"
Twilight nodded sadly. "What are you saying?"
Fire felt a pain in his chest, but it wasn't as painful as he originally thought it would be. Twilight was his good friend, and he was happy that she would remain that way, even if she wasn't his girlfriend.
"This may be the end of us as a couple, but I am your friend Twilight. You need to find Flash. You need to tell him how you feel. If he feels the same way, Sunset will understand. It's worth the risk. I'm encouraging you to do this because I know that you need to."
Twilight tilted her head and looked into Fire's eyes. "Thank you... For everything." She kissed him on the cheek before opening the car door. "I'm glad I can trust you to make the right choices."
She pulled herself out of the car ready to find Flash.
Fire leant back in his seat, a smile on his face, feeling good after doing the right thing.
