Alvin turned away and turned Brittany to walk in the other direction, causing Jeanette to feel uncomfortable.
Was I being stupid? Jeanette wondered to herself doubtfully, still on the ground.
To answer her question like mind-reading, Alvin turned back to her and gave her a thumbs up, boosting her self-confidence.
"Okay, what do you want me to do this time, Alvin?" Brittany asked vulnerably.
"Here's a list of it." Alvin handed her a piece of paper, causing Brittany herself to whine in defeat.
"Come on, it isn't that hard. Just follow the instructions. Come by later for the last task, to bring me my order!" Alvin reminded her before running off to his next class, leaving a very demoralised Brittany behind.
As Jeanette picked herself off the ground, she got hit again in the head by a basketball. A laughing Derek strolled by, picking up his basketball.
"Cool dancing, weirdo." He remarked sarcastically.
"Oh, I'm hopeless." Jeanette muttered to herself, rubbing her head.
"Jeanette!" She heard a familiar voice, and by her side was Simon pulling her up.
"Are you okay?" He asked in concern, examining the area where she had been hit.
"I'm used to falling to the ground, it's not that big of a deal." Jeanette sighed.
Simon gave her a worried look, knowing that at that moment, Jeanette was feeling demoralised.
"Where were you anyway?" Jeanette asked him.
"Oh, um, homework." He answered.
"Oh." Jeanette looked down miserably, thinking that Simon was drifting away from her just like Brittany.
It seems that only Alvin wouldn't judge me... Jeanette thought to herself.
"Simon, am I doing a good job in getting over my shyness?" She asked Simon with sorrowful eyes.
Simon was stuck. Alvin's method of helping her was not exactly the best in the first place, but he did not want to lie to that sweet face.
Well, she certainly is trying very hard, and that can be a good thing, right? Simon questioned himself before deciding what to say.
"W-well, you are doing your best, a-and, that's good." Simon smiled sheepishly.
Jeanette observed the way he stuttered, and how he did not say yes to her simple yes or no question. She hung her head low.
"Thanks." She responded softly and turned around.
Simon sensed the sarcasm in her voice, being the wittiest kid in school. He mentally slapped himself, groaning to himself.
"J-J-Jeanette! Wait, oh come on, Jeanette!" He begged, but Jeanette ignored him, with an embarrassed look on her face.
She looked around, seeing a crowd of judgmental looks. She kept her head low, not wanting to meet any eyes.
Simon sighed to himself, knowing Jeanette was smart enough to read between his lines.
Just then, the happy and comfortable buddies, Theodore and Eleanor, strolled by. How Simon wished his friendship with Jeanette was just like that. No conflict, no third wheelers, just the two of them. It all turned complicated ever since Brittany and Alvin got involved, especially Alvin, the troublemaker.
"What's up with Jeanette?" Eleanor asked Simon.
"Yeah, we greeted her but she walked right past us." Theodore added.
"Is this about her... Well... Her actions lately?" Eleanor clarified.
"Oh, I don't know what's going on in Jeanette's head anymore. Everything in everyone's perspectives is more complicated than that." Simon responded with a sigh, thinking about his struggle in keeping his best friend and losing her to Alvin.
"What's in your perspective?" Theodore asked.
"Nah, I don't want to talk about me. This isn't about me in the first place, it's about Jeanette." Simon waved them away, walking off miserably.
The two matching-coloured best friends looked at each other with worried looks.
"Should we step in to help?" Theodore suggested.
"I say we do. I can feel tension rise between my sisters every day." Eleanor nodded her head in agreement.
"It's the same for Simon and Alvin." Theodore sighed.
"We'll help them. Everything will turn out fine, Theo." Eleanor assured Theodore with an encouraging smile.
A/N: THEONOR <3 they're so cute >~<
It made me feel a little sad that they're always on the sideline in almost every story unless it's a Theonor story.
