A/N: Back to school for second semester, and look what my friend got for me as a birthday gift! I feel so horrible and grateful at the same time(it's super soft)! On his birthday, I gave him a card, but for my birthday, he spent like thirty bucks on me! And told me in a letter that it was a symbol of our friendship(cause it's Best Friend Bear) since first grade(now we're in senior year and most likely to go in different paths, time flies :<) okay sorry enough about my life 😂 just felt the need to share my joy!
During lunch at school, Simon sat in the library alone, wishing to be undisturbed. He knew Jeanette was busy in the cafeteria, probably eating with either her younger sister, or Alvin.
He sat on a table, reading a book of the same title as the one Jeanette borrowed the other day. He was not fond of fantasy and romance books usually, but the way Jeanette described the ending sounded so much like his nightmare.
It was as if Jeanette was the peasant girl, and he was the archer who was her best friend. Alvin was the royal prince in the story, obviously. Simon felt like an invisible damsel in distress, unnoticed by Jeanette.
He could even feel empathy for the archer in the story, who spent his entire life from childhood firing arrows at dangerous creatures for her, protecting her with all his heart. Then comes along a prince, who obviously gets the girl. Then again, the story was always about the prince and the girl, and the archer was nothing more than a supporting character.
At the same time while he was at the library, Jeanette was in fact in the cafeteria, sitting by Eleanor and Theodore. The two best friends were talking about how Eleanor was helping the food and nutrition department cater for the school dance event, being the top in cohort for that subject. Jeanette listened attentively, occasionally sharing her opinions about Eleanor's cooking which were positive reviews.
"Hey, where is Simon? Don't you two usually hang out during lunch?" Eleanor asked.
"I don't know, Ellie. He seems to disappear a lot halfway during lunchtime, ever since... I don't know how long. I never really took notice." Jeanette looked around.
"Sometimes I find him here, or at the library. But he's always away from me during this time of the day." Jeanette confided in them.
"Really? Wow, that's really unlike Simon." Eleanor remarked.
"Yeah, it is. But you see... He's hiding a secret from me but won't tell me. He can't even tell me why he can't tell me." Jeanette added.
Out of the blue, Theodore began choking on his sandwich.
"Oh my gosh, Theodore!" Eleanor gasped.
"Are you okay?" Jeanette asked in concern.
"---" Theodore coughed, ensuring that he was fine with a thumbs up.
"S-sorry." He apologised between coughs for startling the girls.
"Do you know anything, Theodore?" Jeanette asked in suspicion.
"N-no! I think... I'm gonna puke, excuse me!" Theodore bolted off.
"That's funny, Theodore normally doesn't show signs of anorexia." Jeanette remarked.
"Yeah, they should bring him to be diagnosed." Eleanor agreed.
"Maybe Simon's in the library at this time. You should go looking for him." I'll go check on Theodore, maybe wait for him outside the toilet." Eleanor suggested.
Jeanette nodded and the two sisters parted. After some time, Theodore walked out of the toilet, startled to find his best friend waiting just outside for him.
