"Whoa, take a chill pill, Brittany." Simon tried to calm her down.
"How can I, Simon? How can I? When he- when he- ugh!" Brittany was emotionally unstable.
Simon looked at her with worry but remained calm. He absolutely hated to see girls unable to control their emotions over a boy, he felt pity for them. No girl should ever have to waste tears or rage on any boy, he believed.
"I'll go with you, if that will make you happy." Simon offered kindly.
"You will?" Brittany asked, speechless as she quickly rearranged her slightly smudged mascara.
"Yeah." Simon smiled genuinely, cleaning up a smudge for her.
"You do know that by agreeing to go wth me, you are agreeing to my idea of attempting to blow those two off right?" Brittany clarified, raising her eyebrow.
"Absolutely. I agree, ninety-nine percent, plus one. You do the math." Simon smirked, sticking his hand out.
Brittany was taken aback by Simon's attitude change. She did a double take, examining if Simon was really agreeing to this. She slowly mirrored his look, completing the handshake.
"But let's not get too extreme into this plan, okay? I believe there is a possibility of more conflict rising if they really do get affected, and badly, by us going together." Simon reasoned out.
"No kisses?" Brittany asked.
"No!" Simon stuck his tongue out in disgust.
"What about hugs?" Brittany asked.
"Gosh you're so touchy." Simon shuddered.
"As if Jeanette doesn't hug you." Brittany scoffed.
"She only does it when she's excited. Otherwise I'm the one doing it." Simon reasoned out.
"Who's the touchy one now?" Brittany challenged, raising her eyebrows.
"Okay look, I can't fully pretend to like you and show convincingly that I do with a snap of a finger, you know?" Simon made his point.
"Holding hands at least?" Brittany rolled her eyes, scowling.
"I guess that's fine." Simon shrugged.
"Oh well, I'll take what I can." Brittany accepted with a shrug.
"But thanks, Simon." She was wreathed in smiles.
"Anytime, Britt." Simon responded with a sincere smile.
After school, the brothers walked home together. Simon just stayed silent, struggling not to pay attention to Alvin chattering about Jeanette with Theodore.
"I thought you would ask Brittany." Theodore chuckled.
"Brittany? Oh, nah. She has a ton of guys asking her." Alvin scoffed.
"I wonder who she's going with though, because word is going around that she's already got a date." Alvin hesitated aloud.
