I cast my gaze down. "I'm sorry."
She gave a fake chuckle. "For what? You didn't make him kill those people."
"I suppose that's true." After a short silence, I glanced towards the door. "Well, I suppose we're done here. I will leave you to your relaxation and just-"
She interrupted me. "Connor, wait."
I looked back at her as I stood from my chair. "What is it?"
"Could you stay a bit longer? I-I mean you don't have to, if you have somewhere you need to go. I just... I miss having him around, you know? I miss having someone to talk to."
I nodded and sat back down. "Yes. I can stay."
"Thank you." She took another sip of her drink, leaving us in another silence.
"Can I ask you a personal question, (y/n)?"
"I suppose. Shoot."
"What is your opinion on androids?"
She thought for a moment. "No different to my opinions on humans, I guess. If they are good, I like them, if not, then I don't. Androids are just people to me. That's how I've always felt."
"So did you ever own an android?"
"No. It felt... wrong. My parents have one. Well, I don't know if she decided to stay with them or not after everything that happened. They were good to her, so maybe she did."
"Have you not visited your family recently?"
She smiled faintly. "No, no. They live just outside of Seattle."
I widened my eyes. "Oh. That's a long way from here."
She scoffed. "Yeah, almost 2000 miles."
"Do you miss them?"
"Of course I do. I wish I could visit more, but flights are expensive."
"Yes. Do you have any siblings?"
"Yeah, I have an older sister."
"Do you see her at all?"
She looked down. "We were... never really that close. There was another thing that drove us apart even more, but I'd rather not talk about it."
I glanced out the window. "Okay. I'm sorry."
She giggled. "You apologize too much!"
"Oh, s-sorry." I couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Stoooooop." She laughed more.
I couldn't help but smile at (y/n)'s laugh; it was... cute. What is this feeling? My chest feels tight, and my thirium pump seems to be working faster than usual.
She finished laughing. "Okay, okay. What about you, Connor? You have anyone you call family?"
I was taken aback by her question. No one had ever asked me that. "Well... I-I suppose Hank and Sumo are my family."
"Who's Sumo?"
I smiled. "Oh, Sumo is Hank's dog."
She smiled back. "Do you like dogs, Connor?"
"Yes. I like dogs."
She giggled again. "Me too. What breed is he?"
"He is a saint bernard."
She whistled, moving the pitch down as she did. "That's a big dog."
I chuckled. "Yes. He is."
"I have a corgi at home."
I tilted my head. "What is its name?"
"His name is Pippin."
I smiled at her. "That's a nice name."
"Thanks. He's a good boy."
I nodded slowly. "I bet he is."
She smiled. "You know, you are surprisingly fun, Connor."
"Thank you. You are, too, (y/n). Except for the 'surprisingly' part."
She giggled and batted her eyelashes. "Thanks, I try."
After talking and laughing together for a while longer, we heard the bell ring on the door. I glanced over and saw Lucas Torres standing there. I turned my body to face the window and covered the side of my face with my hand.
(y/n) reached over and touched my forearm, looking worried... and making me feel slightly nervous. "What's the matter."
"Um... I just-"
We were interrupted before I could finish. "Hello again, Connor. No Lieutenant Anderson this time, huh?"
I closed my eyes, annoyed, and turned around to face him. "Hello, Mr. Torres."
He gestured towards (y/n). "Aren't you going to introduce me to your lady friend here?"
(y/n) looked at me, confused. "Is this a friend of yours, Connor?"
I stood and continued to glare at Mr. Torres, who was a couple inches taller than me. "No."
He held his hands up next to his face. "Hey, don't shoot the messenger, 'kay?"
(y/n) looked between us. "What is going on?"
"I was sent to bring your friend here back to CyberLife."
She glared at him. "What? Why?"
"That is not your business."
She stood up. "You can't do that."
He looked at her. "There are no laws against it."
She walked up next to me. "Maybe not yet."
"Great." He clapped his hands together. "No problems then, right?"
I answered. "Wrong. I'm not going back to CyberLife."
"Excuse me?"
"You're excused," (y/n) said.
He scoffed at her. "He's just a machine."
She grabbed my arm and pressed herself against me. "He is not! He is a living, breathing person!"
"You do realize his breathing is only simulated, right?"
"Yes, I'm not stupid. You know what I meant."
"You are causing a scene. Please leave us be." I said in a low voice.
He chuckled as he looked at the people staring. "Right. Right. Don't make me take you by force."
"You think you can overpower an android?"
He narrowed his eye. "Fair point. Sorry to interrupt your date." He turned around and held a hand up to the employees and other patrons as an apology. He then proceeded to leave the cafe.
(y/n) spoke up, still clinging to my arm. "Maybe we should go."
I nodded. "Yes. That might be good."
She let go of me and grabbed her drink off of the table, it was cold now, and put her tan cardigan on. She apologized to everyone in the cafe and we left the building. We walked down the street, side by side.
"What a prick," (y/n) said.
I chuckled. "Yeah. Don't worry about it too much. Thank you for the help."
"Yeah, no problem. Why does CyberLife want you anyway?"
"From my understanding, they want to destroy me because they believe I'm dangerous."
She looked up at me. "That doesn't make sense. You're not dangerous. You are far too sweet."
I felt my entire body heat up slightly. I suddenly felt embarrassed. "Thank you."
"You know... My house is really close. Do you want to meet Pippin?"
I smiled down at her. "I would love to."
A/N: Sorry, lots of dialogue in this chapter. Hopefully, you thought it was cute though!
