As I was sitting on the couch, in sleep mode, I got a call. I woke up and answered it. "Shit." I quickly stood up and went over to Hank's bedroom door. I knocked. "Hank, we have a situation." Nothing. I knocked a bit louder. "Hank? You need to wake up." I heard an annoyed groan from inside. "Fine. I'm coming in." I opened the door and Hank held the covers over his head. I titled my head at him. "I'm sorry, Lieutenant, but we need to leave as soon as possible."
"Get the fuck out of here you fucking android." He mumbled.
I walked around to the foot of the bed and pulled the covers to the floor. "Now you have no choice but to get up."
He sat up and glared at me. "What the fuck is so damn important, Connor?!"
"The new Jericho location was set on fire."
"Oh fuck." He said under his breath. "Get out! Let me get ready."
I gave him a nod. "Sure, Lieutenant." I left the room, closing the door behind me.
"Why didn't you say something sooner?" Hank said from the other side of the door.
I stood by the door so that he could hear me. "The fire department is already at the scene. We just need to find out who started it."
"Alright. Go wait for me in the car. I'll be out in a second."
"Okay, Hank." I walked outside and got into the passenger seat.
~Time Skip~
We arrived to the factory where Jericho had relocated. The flames had been mostly put out, and hundreds of androids sat outside, tending to their wounded. Some of the androids noticed us as we got out of the car and began to look around. "I guess we should try to find out where the fire was started, then we can go from there," Hank suggested.
"Got it." Hank and I went over the the androids and began to question them to see if any of them were near the start of the fire.
After several minutes, neither of us had any luck. I started to get frustrated as I continued to ask a few more androids. I heard a voice come from behind me. "Connor?" I turned to see the leader of Jericho, Marcus, with his clothing and synthetic skin stained by smoke. He sighed with relief. "It is you. It's good to see you again." He tried to put a hand on my shoulder, but I stepped back. He furrowed his brows at me in confusion. "What's wrong, Connor? I thought we were friends."
Hank jogged up to us and held his hand up to me. "Don't get all defensive, Connor." He directed his attention to Marcus. "Sorry about him. We had something happen recently, so Connor probably doesn't remember you."
"No, I remember him," I added.
"But not as you should," Hank responded.
Marcus still looked confused. "What happened?"
Hank began to explain the situation. I wasn't going to stay for it, I had a case to solve. I walked away and began to search the perimeter of the building, avoiding any patches of fire that were still burning.
After awhile, I noticed a gasoline container that was thrown into a bush nearby. Fortunately, it was far enough away to be slightly melted from the heat but not have caught on fire entirely. I kneeled down next to it and scanned it. I noticed fingerprints on the container. Jean Giles. No criminal record. I searched for her name in my data. Jean Giles is a 36 year old woman with short red hair and hazel eyes. She is currently unemployed. I stood up and began walking back to find Hank.
Hank and I saw each other, and he began walking towards me. "You find anything?"
I nodded. "I found a gasoline container with the fingerprints of Jean Giles on it. Maybe she was the one to start the fire or at least be involved."
Hank crossed his arms. "Well that's a start. Now we just need to find her. We'll let Fowler know so we can have more cops looking."
~Time Skip 2 days~
Gavin and Chris managed to find Jean and arrest her. Hank and I joined the interrogation upon Chris and Fowler's request. Of course, Gavin hated the idea of me being in the same room as him; I didn't like it either, but it was for the mission.
Gavin sat across from the woman, seeming to try to use sympathy on her. For once, he wasn't wearing a scowl. He almost looked approachable... almost. He quickly lost his patience with her silence and tried to pressure her. She still gave no reaction aside from the occasional flinch. He slammed his hands on the table and stood up, knocked his chair to the floor in his fit of rage. He walked out of the room to meet us. "Stubborn bitch..." he mumbled under his breath. He stood against the wall with his arms crossed.
Hank sighed and looked back at me. "Wanna give it a go, Connor?"
Gavin scowled. "You're gonna let him go in? Are you fucking serious?"
I looked over at Gavin. "Is that a problem, Detective Reed?"
"Yeah. It is." He stood straight and took a step towards me. "What makes you think you can get anything out of her?"
"I was successful during our last interrogation."
He chuckled. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time, you got both yourself and the suspect killed." He took another step closer.
I turned my body to face him. "If you had left the deviant alone, that wouldn't have happened."
"Oh, you're blaming me?" He got in my face, trying to intimidate me. "It would've still destroyed itself because of your shitty negotiation technique!"
I glared at him and slowed my speech. "It wouldn't have mattered. We already had the information."
"Can you two fucking stop already?! I've had enough of your petty bitching at each other!" Hank stood up and scolded us. We didn't move. Hank pushed us away from each other. "I said, enough!"
I averted my gaze, angry and ashamed at the same time. "I'm sorry, Hank."
He sighed. "Let's just... get her into one of the cells. We can deal with this later."
Hank left the room. Gavin and I gave each other another glance, then I followed Hank out.
We were silent as we went back to our desks. After a short silence as we were sitting at our desks, I glanced at Hank. "I really am sorry for my behavior back in the interrogation room, Lieutenant. It won't happen again."
"It sounds to me like you just need to cool off," Hank said, not looking at me.
I tilted my head. "My body temperature is currently normal."
Hank looked over at me seeming annoyed. "I meant that you should take some time to relax. Take your mind off of work and the assholes involved in it."
"What should I do?"
"Go spend some time with (y/n) or something. Take the rest of the day off."
I was taken aback. "Right now?"
"Why not? For everyone's sake, get as far away from Gavin as possible."
I thought for a moment and decided to do as he suggested. "Alright, Lieutenant."
(A/N: Sorry for the short chapter, but I was on a bit on a time crunch for this one. Disclaimer: this is NOT a Connor x Gavin story, nor will there be a love triangle involving him! I just figured I would give Gavin a bit of attention there at the end, because I actually like (love-hate) his character, even if he is only there to be a dick to Connor. Maybe I'm just impressed with how Neil Newbon managed to differentiate Kamski and Gavin so well. *Shrugs*)
