We arrived to the factory and noticed the spray painted symbol on the door. Hank put the car in park. "This must be the place. Our guns are in the glovebox, just in case."
I nodded and opened the glovebox. I handed Hank his gun and took my own. I stepped out of the car and opened the door for (y/n). "I want you to stay behind Hank. I can't risk anything happening to you."
She gave me an understanding nod. "Okay."
Hank gestured for us to go. "Lead the way, Connor."
I turned away from (y/n) and began walking to the door. I stepped inside, no one seemed to be in the immediate area. I gestured for Hank and (y/n) to come inside. We walked down the hall, looking in the small windows of the doors to see if there were any androids in the rooms. We would occasionally see small groups of two or three standing inside, but we figured we would leave them alone for now. I stopped in my tracks, causing Hank to run into my back. "What the fuck, Connor?" Hank whisper yelled at me.
"There are hundreds of androids in this room. Maybe we should take a look."
"Go ahead."
"Stand next to the door. If they don't see you, I can get a better survey of the area without any additional suspicion."
"Call if you need backup." Hank and (y/n) gave me a nod and stepped away from the door.
I hesitantly opened the door, trying not to draw attention to myself. I stood at the door for a moment and scanned my surroundings. I didn't see Rhys anywhere. I took a few more steps inside and scanned again. Still no Rhys. After a few more scans, I was beginning to lose hope. Suddenly, and android came up to me. "Another new guy... There's a lot of you these days."
He was few inches taller than me: perhaps around the same height as Hank. "I'm not looking for any trouble."
"Too bad for you." The android shifted to the side to look at me from a different angle. When he did, I noticed a PJ500 standing with hand held against the hand of an AF200. With a quick scan, I was able to conclude that it was Rhys.
"I'm sorry, but I need to go speak to someone."
The android blocked my path. "That can wait."
"Do not make this more difficult than it needs to be."
I stood my ground as the android circled me. "I've never seen your model around." He paused. "Or maybe... I have. You wouldn't happen to be from Detroit?"
I stayed silent.
The android made another semi circle around me until he stood behind me. He gave me a shove and raised his voice. "Are you going to answer me?"
Rhys seemed to hear the commotion and looked over at us. His eyes widened and he took a step back from the AF200 before turning to run. I immediately swept the androids feet out from under him. "Lieutenant! He's here! Go around!" I took off after Rhys at full speed dodging or pushing past any androids that got in my way. He bursted through the back door and I continued to chase after him once we got outside.
I noticed Hank and (y/n) round the corner, both of them out of breath from the sprint over. I didn't care, I just wanted to catch Rhys and put a stop to all of this. He hopped over a brick wall, I followed. I was gaining on him. Rhys began climbing up a muddy hill. I grabbed his leg and tried to pull him down, but he pulled his leg out of my grip and kicked me in the head, knocking me to the ground. I jumped up as quickly as I could and followed Rhys up the hill.
Rhys didn't even hesitate before starting to make his way across the busy highway that waited at the top of the hill. I ran after him, the cars nearly missing us as they passed by. When Rhys got to the other side, he walked down the side of the road, glancing back where the cars were coming from. I got to the other side and tried to catch Rhys, but I barely missed him as he jumped, grabbing a hold of a passing logging truck.
I felt my LED go red as I was on the ground, watching the truck drive away and Rhys give me a two finger salute. I stood back up and ran back across the highway. Luckily, I had an opening, so I was able to cross in one go. I slid back down the hill and hopped the fence, where Hank and (y/n) were trying to climb up.
"Well? Where is he?" Hank asked.
I turned away from them and walked along the wall, trying to calm myself down. My LED was still a dark red.
"Connor? Did he get away."
I stopped and squeezed my eyes shut, felling my scowl intensify. "Fuck!" I hit the brick wall as hard as I could with the side of my fist, letting out a loud crack, breaking the synthetic skin and plastic open, and crumbling some of the brick on the wall. My hand shook from my anger, and I started walking to the car again.
(y/n)'s POV
Hank and I both stared at Connor with our mouths agape as he walked away, his hands squeezed into fists. Hank glanced at me. "I uh... I've never seen him that mad. You alright?"
I couldn't tear my gaze away from Connor's now broken hand. "T-that was... actually... s-scary."
Hank nodded. "Yeah. It was." He let out a shaky sigh. "We should probably follow him. Make sure he doesn't get into any trouble."
I nodded. "Yeah. Let's go." We followed behind Connor, but not too close. We trust him, but after the scene that had just happened, we wanted to be cautious.
We all got into the car, Connor's LED had dulled to it's yellow color rather than the harsh red. He looked at his broken hand, examining the cracks he had put there. Luckily, he didn't break any "veins" so none of his blue blood was leaking. I wanted to comfort him, but I didn't know if it would have been a good time.
Hank was the first to break the silence. "We'll get him, Connor."
"I was so close..." he mumbled.
"It's alright. You'll get him next time."
Connor stayed silent and just looked back at his poor hand.
I sighed and gently placed my shaky hand on his shoulder. He turned his head back to look at me. "I'm sorry."
I shook my head. "I-It's alright."
"I didn't mean to scare you. I was just so... angry."
"I know. It happens to the best of us. It's okay." I leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. "Let me see your hand."
He hesitantly showed me his broken hand. I gently touched the broken skin. I could feel his chocolate brown eyes watching me as I examined his hand. I glanced up to meet his gaze and gave him a comforting smile. He smiled back and his LED faded to its regular calm blue. "Thank you."
I looked back at his hand. "Do you know if there are any repair shops nearby?"
Connor blinked quickly for a moment; I assumed he was looking up repair shops. "There are two in town."
"We should go get you fixed up." Hank pitched in.
Connor nodded and gave Hank the address of the nearest shop.
~Time Skip~
After Connor's hand was repaired, we decided that it would be best to just relax for the rest of the evening.
Hank and I ordered pizza for ourselves and we rented a couple movies from the hotel. Hank fell asleep in the middle of the first one. Connor leaned against the headboard, and I leaned on him. He had his arm around my waist.
He glanced at me. "You know, we should go out and do something together if we have time."
I looked up to meet his gaze. "Are you asking me on an official date?"
He tilted his head at me. "A date?"
(A/N: Yes, I know Hank already explained this, but this particular Connor doesn't remember that conversation, since it happened before the reset. Got it? Good. *thumbs up*)
"You don't know what a date is?"
He shook his head.
I smirked. "Wow. Okay." I began to explain what a date is to Connor and he listened intently.
After I finished, he smiled. "In that case, yes, I would like to ask you on a date, (y/n)."
I smiled and kissed his nose. "I'll accept that offer. Maybe we can do something tomorrow?"
He nodded and gave me a small side hug.
