I approach the shore on the bottom of the deadly cliff Eli cowardly jumped in, and stare at the water. This water haunts me.
"The ocean!" exclaims Jamie. I turn to Jamie, smiling. I just remember this is their first ever time seeing the ocean. Everyone's eyes pan over the miraculous, shimmering waves.
"It's beautiful..." says Grace. We all see Lillette approach the waves coming to the shore, her shoes now taken off. Her feet stand on the wet sand, and are gracefully greeted by a rush of soft, bubbly waves.
She giggles happily, almost surprised.
"I can't believe your father kept us away from things that could be so... beautiful..." says Tyler next to me. I look over at him, happy for him that him himself and everyone else can finally see what they've always deserved to see.
I wait a minute or two, and finally tell them what we need to do.
"The place Eli and my father are in is through the water and up this tunnel. It's hard to explain, but it's an underground place that contains a lot of... power." I explain. They all look at me in a confused matter.
"Are you saying we have to dive into the water and swim through this tunnel that will lead to some fortress?" asks Lillette. I raise my eyebrows and purse my lips, nodding.
"But guys... I think it's better if you all don't come along... I'm the one he wants, and I don't want your guy's lives in danger." I say. Laura scoffs.
"Sawyer you almost die, and now you're telling us you're gonna swim through a water tunnel alone? Your body is still getting used to minus one power!" exclaims Laura. I roll my eyes.
"You know what Sawyer? She's right, that's total bullshit for us to let you go by yourself. Not now..." says Jamie walking up to me. I sigh.
That's when everyone starts to walk into the water, and turn to me to lead them there. Well, if they're not gonna stay here, I guess I don't really have a choice.
"Lead the way, Soy Sauce." exclaims Jamie, satisfied. I hide my smile and hop into the water, waves rushing through my ankles. I then realize Lim and Laura have not gone back into the water.
"Aren't you two coming?" I say. Laura and Lim look at each other.
"We're both as human as they come." says Laura. I give them a look.
"What are you talking about? Laura you have illusion in your hands, you could be useful." I exclaim, walking up to her.
"And I shouldn't have them. Sawyer, Anthony put this power in me to mess with your mind. I can't do it anymore." she says. I shake my head.
"I have nothing to help you guys. I don't think I can come along either." says Lim. I sigh. Laura comes up closer to me.
"Besides... I've been all up in your business for the past three weeks... A little freedom would be nice, right?" she says with a sly smile. I smile briefly. She's finally letting me do something alone on this trip. I feel like I have to agree with them now. I back away from her, walking back into the water, guilt absorbing through me.
Just before I'm about to dive in, I hear Laura call, "Sawyer!"
We all turn around, seeing Laura look very anxious and worried for this.
