About a month or two passed by. People were quiet. No one seemed to be speaking to each other or feeling the need to speak at all. No one felt the need to smile either. Cameron didn't. He walked through the halls all by himself once more. But, this time, no one was watching him walk. No one, not even one person. He was walking towards his next class. He looked around to see if he saw someone he knew. Even Brody would make him feel comfortable right now. But there was no one there. No Brody, no Emily, no Felix, No Calvin. He couldn't smile. And neither could Calvin. He sat alone in the cafeteria. Lost in his thoughts. The silence made him think, it always does. A lot of different thoughts ran through his mind. School, family, Felix, Emily, Brody. It made him think of Cameron, and the first day he got here.
"What's up?" I ask my best friend Brody "Dude, you know exactly why I wanted to talk to you." He says "No, I honestly don't know. But I would really appreciate it if you tell me, you sound a little worried." I say "Because I am a little worried. About you." He says. I look at him confused "Me? What should be wrong with me?" I ask him "Dude, you know what I am talking about." he says "No I don't." I tell him "I really don't! What should be wrong?" I ask him "You're already having a thing for the newbie?" He asks "What?" I say "No no no, I do not have a thing for him!" "You sure, bro? 'Cause, it's kinda obvious." He says. I chuckle "I do not have a thing for him. How could I? About a month ago I was still madly in love with someone else. I don't fall in love that easily." I tell him "How are you so sure about that? You only ever had one real love interest." He reminds me "I've had crushes!" I tell him "They weren't serious. Just be honest Man." He says "I am! I promise!" I tell him. He sighs and laughs a little bit "I can't believe you sometimes." He chuckles. Together we walk back to the table. Cameron is standing right where I left him, standing in silence, and the others were just looking at each other. I broke the silence "So? Are we going to talk or did we lose our tongues?" they all shrug "Let's start over. This is Cameron, our new friend." I tell them "Hey." Some of them said. I sigh and sit down. Cameron sits down next to me "So do you...like video games?" Felix asks "Uh yeah!" Cameron says. I could see the smile appearing on his face as he started talking with the other guys. Brody never said anything. I wonder why he doesn't. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Cameron. He's just the new kid.
Calvin really thought he'd done something good that day. Made someone feel more comfortable in a new environment. Sadly, he's only now starting to realize how bad everything has gotten ever since he has gotten here. He knows it wasn't just Cameron's fault. His father wasn't a big help either. He blamed himself for not noticing earlier. He should've known. The days off, the bruises, the cuts, the black eyes, the blood. Everything. And their first kids...
"I'm not letting you leave." He said. His voice and eyes were darker, and his grip on Cameron's arms was strong. Cameron pushed him off slightly.
"You can't keep me here." He said. Calvin glanced into his eyes. "Cam, don't do this to yourself." He whispered. Cameron stared into his eyes not sure what to say. Calvin glanced down at Calvin's lips for a second before looking back into his eyes.
"Seeing her is not going to solve anything." He whispered. "You don't know that," Cameron replied quietly. Calvin removed his hands from his arms.
"Listen, I may not know Brenna as well as you do, but she's not going to listen to you." Calvin reminded him. Cameron just stared into his eyes. Somehow he knew how much it would hurt Calvin if he left. Cameron felt his heart beating. Calvin seemed to get closer, slowly closing the gap between them.
"What if you don't come back?" Calvin whispered. "Is that what you're afraid of? That I won't come back?" Cameron asked. Calvin nodded but never broke eye contact. This time Cameron glanced down at Calvin's lips. Calvin noticed this.
He leaned in and closed the gap between the both of them by pressing his lips against Cameron's. Calvin quickly pulled back. "Sorry." He mumbled. "Cameron." A deep male voice spoke behind them. Cameron glanced over his shoulder and saw his father standing on the porch of their house. "Who's this?" James asked his son. Cameron stepped away from Calvin. "No one." He mumbled. James walked towards them, holding a glass of liquor in his hand. Cameron stood in front of Calvin. James chuckles and puts his hand on the back of his son's neck. "Come on, let's go inside." He said. Cameron walked past his father and walked up the steps to get to the door. James turned around and stepped closer to Calvin. "You should leave." He said. James walked towards his son and walked inside. Cameron walked in after him and closed the door. Calvin sighs and puts his hands in his pockets walking away. He glanced over his shoulder to take one last glimpse of the house. He pulled his hood over his head and walked away.It wasn't just his father's fault. It wasn't Cameron's fault. It was Calvin's fault too. He didn't notice or do anything about it. Calvin bit his bottom lip trying to hold back a little tear. Why didn't he do anything? Why not?! "Are you alright?" Brody asked as he walked into the cafeteria. Calvin shook his head and glanced over his shoulder to look at his best friend. "I'm not." He tells him. Brody sat next to him, "I'm so not alright." He continued.
