Arielle gets dressed in her special birthday outfit, a pink sparkly shirt, grey leggings, and a pink tutu. She was very excited to look so good. Tom let her wear very small heels and she felt all grown up.
Tom and Bethany made sure that all of the snacks were set out nicely on the table. There would soon be chips and crumbs all over the table, but that's why Tom layered it with two plastic covers.
The doorbell rings and Arielle runs to the door. She opens it, and Diana is standing there. "Grandma!"
"Hello, munchkin." she laughs and gives her a hug. "How's my baby?"
"Good!"
"Good? Where's my other munchkin?"
"Hi, Grandma!" Bella exclaims.
"Hey, baby." Diana pulls a $10 from her pocket. "I know it's not your birthday but get yourself something nice."
"Hey, Mum." Tom says and walks over to Diana. Diana hugs him and kisses him on each side of his face.
"Tommy, darling, would you mind please getting bags out of the boot for me?" she asks.
"Sure. What is it?"
"Just stuff for the party and birthday presents for the birthday girl." Diana hands him her keys and she notices Bethany standing behind him. "Who's this?"
"Mum, this is Bethany."
"Oh, Bethany. Tommy has talked so much about you. Come here, dear, I'm a hugger." Bethany chuckles and hugs Tom's mother. "Look at you, you're such a cute little thing. Are you being good to my son?"
"Of course, Ms. Hiddleston." Bethany replies.
Diana gently slaps her arm. "None of that nonsense, dear. It's Diana." she says. "And I presume my son is being good to you? I'll slap him silly if he's not."
Beth laughs and looks at Tom who's unloading large bags from the back of his mother's car. "He's amazing, Diana. You've raised an excellent man."
"I guess he's not too bad, huh?" Diana laughs and sets her purse down on the couch. "So tell me, dear, where are you from?"
"Ohio."
"Ohio, hmh. Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of visiting there yet."
Bethany smiles and looks at Tom again. "You two are very similar, let me tell you."
"I'm not trying to intrude so tell me as little or as much as you want, but has he said the magic words yet? He raves about you so I know he does but sometimes he can get a little shy. I love my son but that's his problem,he doesn't go for it. He's a very quiet, nice, boy."
Another chuckle escapes Bethany's mouth. She loves listening to her boyfriend's mom talking about him. She knows that they're very close so for her to like her, it means alot. "Yes, he has. We've said it quite a lot actually."
"Well look at that, now! Fantastic. I'm so glad he's found someone again. Don't you dare hurt him. I know I'm old but I can still, as the kids say these days say, throw some hands."
"Don't worry, Diana. I love your son and your granddaughters. They're my family."
"I'm glad to hear it, darling. Well, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to hit the loo."
"Of course."
Tom walks over to Bethany once his mom leaves. "Did she give you the third degree?"
"It's fine." Bethany chuckles. "I really like your mom."
"Well, yes, I do too, I'm just wondering what she asked you."
