*Jay's POV*
"Will please." I hated to beg my brother for anything but he was my key to get out of here.
"Jay it hasn't been a week since you got shot. If you go home now, you will only hurt yourself more than you already are." He said disapprovingly.
"You're not my doctor anyways so I will get out of here by the end of the day." My brother's look gave his opinion away when he heard that.
"Erin! Perfect timing." I turned to the door and there she was.
"I'm on Jay's side." She leaned down and kissed my smile because I could picture Will's look right now.
Lindsay dropped onto the bed next to me and I put an arm around her.
"You both have a problem, you because of your idea and you because you support him without knowing what he wants." We were left alone and Lindsay snuggled up to me as she usually did when she came in to see me everyday.
"How are you today." She stroked my cheek and I saw her arms get goosebumps as she stroked my beard, which had grown longer in the past few days because I couldn't raise my arms well and therefore couldn't trim it.
"I'll make it shorter as soon as I can." I promised her.
"Are you crazy? No way! It stays that way." I had to laugh when she said that, which I quickly stopped because it hurt.
"Guess then I don't." I took her face in my hands and made sure she was making good contact with my beard when I kissed her. I stopped when I heard someone clear their throat at the door.
"I see you're doing better." My doctor entered the room.
*Erin's POV*
"Yes Doc. And that's why I want to go home." That was probably the discussion the two brothers had had.
"Dr Halstead has already told me that. But you have to do a little test for me so that I know if you are really ready to be released." The doctor held out two crutches to Jay.
"Once down the hallway and back up again, if you don't pass out from pain afterwards, I can let you go." Jay nodded eagerly and I had to say that I was a little worried about him.
I saw the ambition on his face and got up so he had room to get out of bed himself.
When he straightened up, his face suddenly turned white.
"Can I have a moment?" I was already there to support him, but Dr James stopped me.
"Of course. I can come back later and we'll try again." He suggested, but Jay shook his head vigorously.
I knew that right now he had to prove to himself that he could get up and walk.
"I think it's fine now." The doctor gave his approval and Jay stood up.
The muscles in Jay's arms protruded from the fact that he held on to his crutches so bad.
"You can try again later, if it doesn't work just yet. It's just the first attempt." I wasn't comfortable with this.
Jay had beads of sweat on his forehead, even though he was 'just' standing."I got this." He gritted his teeth and waddled down the corridor, watching him walk so slowly was immeasurable painfull.
"I didn't think he could do it." Jay was on his way back and the doctor looked impressed.
"Jay is strong even when he is badly injured." I felt bad for thinking he couldn't do it for a second myself but he had proved me wrong.
"No problem at all." Jay announced when he shuffled past us back into his room.
"You did a really good job." Praised Dr James and then let Jay rest.
"Good job." I got a slight nod, but Jay didn't seem to be doing well.
"Can you please leave the room." He looked at me and I left, but waited in front of the room.
As soon as I closed the door behind me, I heard Jay throw up.
*Jay's POV*
"Erin." My voice was quite quiet but the door opened and she came back in.
"Do you feel better?" She asked, I nodded and sighed.
"You did good." She let herself drop on the bed next to me and her touch made me feel as if I wanted to disappear because I was so ashamed.
"Jay." She seem to notice how I was feeling.
Not only did I fail to do something as simple as walking, but she needed to see my struggle and that didn't seem right to me.
"I know that you maybe feel like you failed. But you didn't. It's actually quite impressive that you managed to walk, the doctor was just outside and gave me the papers and if you sign them you can go home." That cheered me up a bit and I signed them straight away.
"I'll go get dressed then." I got up and this time I had no dots in front of my eyes to stop me.
Lindsay handed me a shirt and sweatpants and I couldn't really figure out the look she gave me.
"What's so funny? I'm a poor injured man, don't laugh." I snirred and she nodded but the smile grew wider.
"I'm glad you're back." She kissed me.
"Okay Lindsay, I get it." I heard her laugh from outside and when she opened the door and just looked happy my world was all fine again.
When I could have bottled the sound of her laugh and got drunk on it I would have.
"Gosh I love you." Her eyes lit up when I said that.
"This is not a conversation you want to start badly injured in a hospital bathroom, Halstead." Her cheeks blushed and I knew what she was going at.
"I guess." I held out the pants to her and looked at her with puppy eyes.
It was against my grain that she was dressing me, but there was no other way, because I could hardly move my arms.
"I would have never guessed that I would get to do this at some point." Lindsay looked at her work with satisfaction.
"Ouh don't get used to it." I raised and eyebrow and she grinned because we both knew it would take me some time for my body to fully work again.
