A day out with mama

When you got to the pet store, Bucky got out first and opened the door for your mom and then for you while you got out of your seatbelt. You blushed a little and followed Bucky and Steve into the store and immediately saw Pepper and Nat filling carts with dog toys and teething toys. Your mom went and grabbed a cart and Steve started filling it with cases of dog formula, and Bucky started helping you put in more toys and lots of bottles for the pups. You smiled shyly at him while you carefully picked out two more collars, and leashes as well as more dishes for Jasper and Daisy.
"Shouldn't we get a new leash for Melody to match her collar, and for Pup?" Bucky spoke softly from beside you. You nodded and smiled reaching for something to match both of them to their collars. Bucky tentatively grabbed a few toys for the wolves. "I don't even know where we are going to fit all of it" he sighed to himself and you touched him gently on the shoulder and took the toys and put them in the cart.
"We will find the room, lets pick out a few more beds" you took your hand off his shoulder and smiled at him softly. He nodded and pushed the cart towards the dog beds. You grabbed a few more large ones in different colors, letting Bucky pick two of them. When you got to the check out, you saw Steve had bought their entire stock of dog formula and gave a small giggle. Happy was standing proudly at the cashier where Nat and Pepper were checking out. Happy would just ask for everything to be delivered. You waited patiently with Bucky at the end. When you got to the cash register you saw the cashier kept staring at Bucky's visible vibranium hand, so you took his hand and held it since he moved uncomfortably and looked around. He stopped immediately and smiled at you and you stood proudly holding his hand. Steve, your mom, Nat and Pepper smirked at you both. Bucky seemed to stand a little taller and continued to smile until you were done at the check out. Happy paid again, and winked at you as he asked for it all to be delivered. You continued to hold Bucky's hand until you got out to the car and he opened the door for you again. You slipped in and Steve opened the door for your mom at the front. You saw Bucky was still smiling to himself as he got back in the front and Steve slid in the back with you.
"Alright, book store" your mom decided.
"Mama, I think I have enough books" you flushed a bit.
"My girl loves her books, so she's getting some more books. Let me spoil you" your mom looked back at you with a smile.
"Tony already bought me lots of books" you sighed. "I haven't even finished reading them"
"I'm not taking no for an answer" your mom chuckled as you pouted.

When you got to the bookstore, Bucky opened your door while Steve got your mom's door and you slipped out quickly. You saw Bucky put his hand in his pocket and you sighed looking at him.
"There's nothing to be ashamed of" you crossed your arms.
"It makes people uncomfortable, and I forgot my gloves" Bucky flushed a bit. You reached out your hand and he looked at you surprised.
"Hold my hand" you shrugged. "We are friends, its no big deal" you blushed. Bucky gave a smirk and took your hand and seemed to stand a little more proudly as you walked into the store. Your mom came in with Steve and stood back.
"How long do you think?" your mom whispered to Steve.
"They're both oblivious" Steve chuckled.
"She's getting braver" you mom looked at him proudly. "But she wont make a move"
"We've been trying to get him to" Steve smirked.
"How long has this been going on?" your mom asked as she led Steve to the cook books.
"I knew he liked her when he wouldn't stop fighting with her. Once her secret came out he changed completely to the Bucky I've known my whole life" Steve chuckled.
"I could tell the moment I saw them together" your mom grinned. "The wolves also keep me updated, which is helpful" she gave a small giggle. She had pulled out a few books and passed them to Steve to hold as she walked through the store, keeping back far enough to watch as you continued to hold Bucky's hand through the store and handing him a few books to hold with his other hand. He kept looking at you with a large smile while you walked.
"I think it shouldn't be too much longer" Steve gave a small smile.
"Good, I want grand children someday" your mom nodded approvingly. "He's a good man, I like him. So does Billy"
They watched as you got more animated as you looked at some books and would pull Bucky from one section to another and Steve smiled to himself. He was glad his best pal seemed to be so happy and at ease for a change.
When you got up to the register you pulled out your wallet, but your mom and Steve caught up, and she took the books from Steve and put them on the counter. "These too" your mom announced and took out her credit card.
"Mama, I can buy my own books" you sighed heavily.
"Let me spoil you" she shook her head, and took the bags, handing them to Steve who grinned. "They're heavy, its good you have so many strong men around you" your mom winked at you. "Now, lets go to the cabin"

Arriving at the cabin without you having to tell Bucky where to go was a little surreal. He seemed at ease pulling into your driveway and you looked at the police tape that was fluttering around. This time when you got out of the car, Bucky reached for your hand as you stilled for a moment. You took in a deep breath and took it. Your mom and Steve waited for you to take the first steps towards the cabin, and you tried to hold back tears as you walked in. The first thing they saw was the trashed remains of your living room and dining room with the spray painted walls and bullet holes throughout.
"This is what I came home to that last night" your bottom lip was trembling. Bucky squeezed your hand, and it took you a moment to realize he was holding your hand with his flesh hand. "I made it this far" you pointed to the wall where there was a dent.
"You shouldn't have gone through this alone" Bucky whispered to you.
"I had Cloud" you smile up at him with tears in your eyes. You moved towards the kitchen and opened the cupboards and saw a few destroyed cookbooks of your own making. Bucky pulled them down and saw your lip trembling again.
"I can fix these" your mom came over and took them from him. "I have most of these recipes back home, I'll send you new books with them again". Steve walked around the dining room and saw there wasn't anything salvageable. He shook his head to Bucky before coming back towards you both. You pulled on Bucky's hand and headed to your bedroom and you saw even the French doors that you always left open for Cloud to go outside were destroyed. You saw the surveillance photo's still on the walls of you walking around the city, from nights you knew you were looking for the boys but also saw the spray painting of saying "You'll regret this". Bucky pulled you close and wrapped his arm around you, still holding your hand.
"Lets see if there's anything salvageable" your mom sighed looking around. "Its going to take a long time to get this fixed up for you"
"I doubt its fixable" you felt a few tears fall down your face. "Besides, I live at the compound now"
"We can fix it" Steve cleared his throat. "It just needs a little extra love" he decided.
"I can't imagine feeling comfortable to come back here" you shook your head. "Even with the wolves, it doesn't feel safe anymore" you sighed.
"That bastard really did destroy all your first editions" your mom growled. You felt a few more tears fall, and felt Bucky kiss you on top of the head.
"It's okay, you and Cloud got out alive" he whispered to you. "That's most important"
"I wish we would have known about this sooner" Steve sighed. Your mom pulled down your jewelry box and saw all the pieces were smashed to pieces.
"Well, you need new jewelry" you mom frowned. "Tony was right, there's nothing really left here to get"
"Tony came with Cloud, it would be nice to get some of my recipes back though" you turned and put both of your arms around Bucky trying to hide your tears. He seemed shocked for a moment, but wrapped his arms around you, letting go of your hand temporarily. He rubbed your back and brought his hands up to the back of your neck and tilted your head to look up at him.
"You're safe with us, this will never happen again" he vowed to you. "Come on" he wiped your tears and you stood back and he took your hand again. He led you back out the front door, while Steve and your mom took another look around.
"We have some new books for you to read in the living room tonight, and I have it on good authority that you have some good playlists" Bucky whispered to you as you got to the car.
"Can it be sad songs tonight?" you looked up at him.
"You've had enough sad things today, how about your driving mix?" he gave a smirk leaning down to you more.
"I'll meet you halfway with the love songs" you found yourself gazing into his eyes, and the butterflies were coming back with a vengeance.
"Deal" he grinned and squeezed your hand, and brought it up to his face and kissed your knuckles. You wanted to faint with happiness. Your imagination started working overtime, wanting to have so much more with him. He kept your gaze, and you saw his eyes flicked down to your lips for a moment before they went back to your eyes. You felt like he was leaning in a little more and licked your lips in anticipation.
"That bastard even slashed your Pikachu shower curtain" your mom announced from behind both of you and the both of you separated quickly.
"Its okay, I don't plan to come back here for a long time" you shook your head, and Bucky opened the door for you to get back in the car.
