Now, in his civilian identity, Barry sits at the restaurant bar of Le Grand Paris hotel, by himself. Chloe's butler tends to the bar.
Butler Jean: What can I get for you, Monsieur Allen?
Barry: Just a root beer, Jean. Tout de suite.
The butler nods.
Butler Jean: Of course, Monsieur. One root beer, à venir.
He whips up a glass of root beer for the teen.
Barry: Thanks. Just leave the bottle, Jean.
Butler Jean nods, and a familiar voice is heard, as Barry takes a sip of root beer.
Female voice: Having a rough night?
Barry looks towards the source of the voice.
In her usual outfit, consisting of her multi-colored hexagon emblem t-shirt, and yellow pants, under her faux leather jacket. Complete with a blue beanie on top of her long blonde hair, now with a magenta streak on the left side. Zoe Lee approaches the bar.
Barry sighs, in exhaustion.
Barry: (Sighs) You don't know the half of it, Zoe.
She takes a seat, next to Barry.
Zoe: My usual, Armand. This one's on me.
Armand: Of course, Mademoiselle Zoe.
He pours Zoe a glass of milk, and hands it to the blonde.
Zoe: Thanks, Armand.
The butler nods, acknowledgingly.
Armand: The pleasure is all mine, Mademoiselle Zoe. (Aurez-vous besoin d'autre chose?)
Zoe: No, thank you. That'll be all, Armand.
He nods, and walks off. Waiting by the door. Barry looks at Zoe, in surprise.
Barry: You've certainly picked up on a lot, I see.
Zoe: Yeah, I've been adjusting to my new home, quite well.
Plus, I've been learning how to understand French, courtesy of Chloe.Barry: Huh, interesting.
Zoe holds her glass of milk, before speaking up, again.
Zoe: So, what's up, Barry? And don't tell me it's nothing. You obviously wouldn't be here, otherwise.
Barry takes a drink of his root beer, and pours more in the glass, before speaking to Zoe.
Barry: (Sighs) I don't know. I...I got into an argument earlier, and it didn't go so well.
Zoe: Who did you get into an argument with?
Barry looks at Zoe, solemnly.
Barry: I'd rather not say, Zoe. The last thing I need is to rope you into my drama.
Zoe nods as she listens to Barry, before taking a drink of her milk. And placing a comforting hand on Barry's shoulder.
Zoe: That's okay, Barry. I...I understand your privacy. But, if I may, keeping your problems a secret is not a good thing. If you need someone to vent to, I'm more than willing to hear you out.
Barry takes another drink of root beer.
Barry: (Huffs) It just feels like I'm doing more harm than good here.
Zoe quickly becomes puzzled.
Zoe: What do you mean?
Barry: Ever since Marinette's mom was murdered, I've been working for the last 4 weeks, trying to prove her father didn't murder his wife. But I haven't even gotten close to closing the case.
