***This is my take on what happened after DSP Anubhav discovered that the MPT had taken drinks on duty. ***
A Case of Discipline
Anubhav strolls inside the MPT, rooming his glasses only to discover a scene of chaos and disorder inside. He'd come for a routine visit and inquiry but what he saw flared his anger pushing his buttons as a senior officer. He glared at the unorderly conduct of the MPT members, equally disappointed with them all, especially Haseena Malik.
After the MPT had calmed down from their rush of alcohol, they stood in a line facing each other. Anubhav stood at the head of the line, glaring at each member, the anger and frustration evident in his reddened eyes. All members of the MPT had their eyes lowered to the ground, hearts pounding in fear as to what would happen.
Haseena Malik as the SHO was distraught with herself. She blamed herself entirely for not being responsible. She knew tha whatever happened was her fault and she was ready to take the blame but one look at Anubhav, her senior silenced her.
Anubhav let the silence stretch making sure to sweat all the members. He was wondering of a deserving punishment for their disorderly conduct. He glared at them, the line of MPT members, none dared to move.
Finally, he broke the silence treading along the line and standing directly in front of Haseena. Haseena's fear grew, her racing heart thumping violently. She pinched her fingers repeatedly making sure to keep her head down.
"Haseena Malik", he called, his voice, a sharp roar.
Haseena gulped. There was nothing she could do. She slowly lifted her head and looked at him, making her best to not show the fear.
"Kya hua is station par aapke adhikaar mein bilkul aswikar hai. SHO hone ke naate aapka kartavya hai ki kanoon aur vyavastha ko banaye rakhein lekin aap khud sharabi thi Ms. Malik. Kya aapke paas koi spashtikaran hai?" he asked, trying to mask a composure in his voice.
Haseena balled her fists, clenching and unclenching it multiple times before speaking.
"Sir... Mujhe maaf kar do..." she started but Anubhav interrupted her.
"Maine aapse maafi maangne ko nahi kaha Ms. Malik," he shouted, each of his words echoing deep in Haseena's mind.
He paused, staring directly at her, his arms crossed flat across his chest. Haseena's fear stirred uncontrollably. She could feel her legs shaking beneath her. Only the clenching of her fists kept her from not succumbing to the anger of Anubhav.
"Jo aapne kiya, Ms. Malik, uska aapko pakka saja milegi." He stopped again, sinking his eyes deep into Haseena. "Aur aapki saja Ms. Malik hai ki aap darwaze ke paas seedha khade rahein agle teen ghante tak bina hile, station par aane wale kisi ko bhi salute dete hue." Another pause. "Aur agar aap hile, to aapko 20 sit ups karne honge aur apni saja resume karni hogi."
Haseena's heart sank. How could she stand without moving for 3 hours?
She lowered her face without replying, balling her fists.
Haseena Malik, maine aapko ek aadesh diya. Kya yeh spasht hai?" he shouted again.
Haseena lifted her head. "J...Ji sir." She somehow managed to find the words to speak. Haseena saluted him, her shoes barely echoing as she donned her cap and went outside.
She took a deep breath and composed herself. She stood, her back to the door, balled her fists and kept them firmly on her sides while she stood in attention. She stared directly ahead, the glare of the sunlight hurting her gaze. She was muttering all to herself willing herself to not move. She knew she was standing right in front of her cabin and that Anubhav could directly see her. This made her more worried.
o jab tak Haseena wapas nahi aati, main SHO ki duty sambhalunga." He said, dismissing the others with a wave of the hand.
Inside the MPT, KS was furious with herself for letting this happen. She blamed herself. She was so consumed at guilt that Haseena was punished instead of her. She wanted to correct the mistake but she stopped herself fearing that she might make matters worse for Haseena. Instead she slammed her fist into the table and stormed off.
Haseena had no idea how much time had passed but her limbs felt as stone, getting heavy as the time lingered on. She was determined not to move and have the added humility of another punishment.
"Cheetah", Anubhav called from inside. "Mujhe ek chai laao." He ordered.
Haseena heard everything, each voice, each action amplified in her ear now that she had nothing to do but stand as a statue. The moment she dreaded had arrived. She heard Cheetah's footsteps and the minute he stepped out, she raised her hand, saluted him and returned her hands to the original position. It worked like clockwork.
In the distance, Haseena saw Cheetah at the tea stall. He was looking at her, his eyes full of sympathy. Haseena couldn't stand to look at his eyes. She continued to stare directly ahead. As she Cheetah headed back in, Haseena once again saluted him in the same style.
Did Anubhav send cheetah outside intentionally so that Haseena had to salute him? Haseena wondered. She was infuriated with him but she knew that he was a senior and she had no other choice but to follow along with his orders. The pain in her legs was starting to increase, radiating at the base and moving up, bit by bit. She desperately wanted to move, to stretch her aching limbs.
Time passed and Haseena continued to stand, frozen as a statue.
Footsteps, she heard again. She raised her hand and saluted. It was KS. Haseena felt the agony worsen in her heart. She caught the glare of KS as she rode away on her bike but Haseena continued to watch the light of the sun, the glare directly impeding her vision.
During her punishment, only two civilians had entered and Haseena saluted them both all the while wondering how much time was left on her punishment.
She heard the distinct sound of motorcycle brakes pumping. KS arrived again and Haseena followed the same routine. She heard Anubhav talking with KS inside her cabin. Minutes later, KS came back and stood directly in front of her.
Haseena saluted her once again, her arm moving like clockwork as if Haseena herself was nothing more than a robot.
"Madam Sir', KS called, her voice a trembling pipe of agony. Haseena didn't move. She stared straight ahead. "DSP ne aapko andar bulaya hai. Aapki saja khatam ho gayi hai," KS said and left without a glance.
Haseena heaved a sigh of relief. She desperately wanted to ease the tension in her muscles. She relaxed herself, turned and entered her cabin, saluting Anubhav and once again standing at attention.
Anubhav looked at her, his anger seemingly lost with time. Haseena stared ahead intentionally avoiding his gaze. He got up.
"Mujhe ummeed hai ki aapne apna sabak seekh liya hai Ms. Malik aur aisa kuch bhi bhavishya mein kabhi nahi hoga."
"Jee, sir aapka vaada hai."
"Thik hai phir, Ms. Malik. Main jaa raha hoon."
"Jai Hind sir", Haseena saluted him, her voice void of all emptions.
After he left, Haseena relaxed, shaking her hands and legs desperately to get the blood flowing. She was aching all over and needed a rest but she still had to do her duty. She waited a few more minutes, took a deep breath and headed outside, hoping to tackle the case.
Everyone stood up from their desks as Haseena came almost simultaneously. Their eyes, full of sympathy and worry. Haseena knew that it would break her if they started to speak. She nipped it in the bud.
"Chaliye hum us baat ko bhool jaate hain aur case par dhyaan dete hain."
Pushpa Ji interrupted her "Lekin madam sir..."
Haseena held up a hand, her eyes grilling into Puspha Ji. "Pushpa Ji, case?"
Everyone stood at attention, saluted her order and gave her the details of the case.
