***Recreation of the Sagai episode***
Haseena stood in the center of the hall surrounded by the MPT and her mother, listening intently to KS's words. Haseena stumbled, catching a chair for support, the truth creeping in on her.
Her mother fell down on a chair, wheezing as fits of uncontrollable tears seized her. The whole of MPT rushed near her, desperately trying to compose her.
Haseena balled her fists, digging her nails deep into her palm. Tears sprang to her eyes, stinging her eyelids. She looked at her mother and exhaled a long breath, composing herself with great difficulty. She knelt near her mother, resting her head on her knees.
"Ammi, please control yourself. Let's talk about this later."
She stood, kissed her mother's forehead and wiped her tears. She gestured Puspha Ji to take her mother home as the rest of the MPT stood baffled at Haseena's strength.
"Madam Sir..." KS turned to talk yet she was silenced by Haseena's gestures.
As the engagement of Shalini took place, Haseena silently left the hall, her heart breaking with each step. She gripped the folds of her lehenga tightly, her jaw clenched in desperation to stop the tears.
KS and the MPT team watched her leave, their faces full of pain and guilt. They wanted to rush behind Haseena and comfort her yet they were bound by Haseena's orders to oversee the engagement.
Haseena locked herself in her room, falling to the floor, the tears overwhelming her. She sat down, placing her back near the bed, tears streaking down endlessly, dampening her red lehenga. She grabbed her wrist and ripped out the shiny bangles, crushing each with her fists, the tiny plastic attacking her flesh. Paper cuts bled throughout her hand as she stood on the floor, hugging her knees tightly to her chest.
Why did you do this Anubhav? She yelled, her anger rising. Why did you betray me again? Are promises only a joke to you? Did I really mean nothing to you?
She yelled, conjuring Anubhav's image in her mind, the anger and hatred boiling her raw. She stood up walking around the room in quick strides, a raw unease folding through her heart. She yelled, a defiant scream, as she grabbed the flower vase and hurled it to the floor, the sound of shattering glass echoing in the room.
Soon, she pulled everything off the shelves, throwing everything down to the floor. She screamed, her cries echoing throughout the dead silence of the night. Her room descended into chaos, her thoughts spiraling in anger, in hate and in frustration.
She stopped, her body trembling, her breath a wheezing agony. She balled her fists and slammed it into the wall, the harsh impact sending her backwards. Her fist collided with the wall again and again, the splinters digging deep into her knuckles, drawing blood. Yet, Haseena was blind, blind with pure anger. She continued raining fists into the wall until finally she crumbled to the floor, cradling her wounded arm oozing with blood.
She sank down, the memories piling up on her. Her first meeting with Anubhav, their impromptu dates. His proposal at the airport. She could see her face, full of happiness as she accepted Anubhav for the second time, her naïve and innocent heart lulling to the rhythm of love. She screamed again, Anubhav's betrayal coming into focus.
How could she have been so stupid, so foolish to believe him again? Haseena blamed herself, continuously slapping her cheek. The handprints lashed out, her skin a mix of brute markings.
After a prolonged torture, Haseena dragged herself towards the bathroom, sitting cross-legged under the shower. She lifted her hand and turned the nozzle, a blast of icy water raining down on her. She stood, rooted to the spot, her body drenched with the cold water, the droplets cascading down to the floor. She winced in pain, her body frozen, the tiny drops attacking each and every part of her body.
