Chapter 17: Rogue Whispers

Start from the beginning

The faint hum of wings broke the silence, and Y/n turned just in time to see a tall figure descending from the sky. Azazel, the Governor-General of the Fallen Angels, touched down gracefully, folding his massive black wings behind him.

Azazel: (Grinning warmly) "I was wondering when you'd show up, kid. Thought you might've gotten bored and wandered off."

Y/n: (Deadpan) "I'm still deciding if this is worth my time."

Azazel laughed, the sound echoing through the mountains.

Azazel: "Fair enough. But trust me, it'll be worth it. You've got potential, Y/n. I just want to see if you're sharp enough to handle some of the crazier things out there."

Y/n raised an eyebrow but didn't respond. Azazel had been something of a mentor to him for a brief time, offering knowledge about the supernatural world and occasional training in exchange for Y/n's help with certain... projects. While Y/n didn't fully trust him, he had to admit that Azazel's lessons had been valuable.

But as they spoke, a sudden shift in the air drew Y/n's attention. The temperature seemed to drop, and a faint, oppressive energy crept into the atmosphere.

Y/n: (Quietly) "We're not alone."

Azazel's cheerful expression faltered, his golden eyes narrowing as he turned toward the source of the disturbance. From the mist emerged a figure clad in dark armor, a 3 pairs of raven like wings stretched out behind him. His presence radiated hostility and chaos, a sharp contrast to Azazel's relaxed demeanor.

Kokabiel: (Smirking) "Azazel. Still playing the benevolent leader, are we?"

Azazel's shoulders slightly tensed signifying his readiness to fight if needed , his hand moving slightly toward the hilt of a blade at his side.

Azazel: (Calmly) "Kokabiel. Didn't expect to see you here. Thought you were busy burning villages or something equally pointless."

Kokabiel: (Mocking) "Oh, don't flatter me. I've just been... exploring new ways to entertain myself. And what's this?"

His crimson gaze fell on Y/n, studying him with a mix of curiosity and disdain.

Kokabiel: (Sneering) "A human? Or are you just keeping a pet these days, Azazel?"

Y/n's lips curled into a smirk, his sharp eyes locking onto Kokabiel without a hint of fear.

Y/n: (Calmly) "You talk a lot for someone who doesn't know when to shut up."

The air grew heavier as Kokabiel's grin twisted into something darker. In an instant, he shot forward, his speed blinding as he lashed out with a black blade of energy aimed directly at Y/n.

But Y/n was faster.

With a fluid motion, he sidestepped the attack, his own crimson aura flaring to life as he delivered a lightning-fast punch to Kokabiel's midsection. The force of the blow sent Kokabiel skidding backward across the rocky terrain, his wings flaring out to steady himself.

Kokabiel: (Growling) "You dare—"

Azazel stepped between them, his voice sharp and commanding.

Azazel: (Coldly) "That's enough, Kokabiel. You don't want to start something you can't finish."

Kokabiel's eyes burned with rage, but he held his ground, his lips curling into a snarl.

Kokabiel: (Smirking bitterly) "Fine. But this isn't over, Azazel. Or you, boy."

With a flap of his crimson wings, Kokabiel vanished into the mist, his oppressive aura fading with him.

Y/n watched him go, his fists still clenched as his aura slowly receded.

Y/n: (Quietly) "What's his deal?"

Azazel: (Sighing) "Kokabiel's always been... unstable. He left our ranks a long time ago, but he's still causing trouble wherever he goes. You'll want to watch your back around him."

Y/n: (Smirking) "He's lucky I didn't break him right here."

Azazel chuckled, though there was a hint of unease in his expression.

Azazel: (Softly) "Careful, kid. Kokabiel's the type who doesn't forget a grudge."

Flashback Ends

The sound of Issei shifting uncomfortably on the couch pulled Y/n back to the present.

Rias: (Pressing) "So, do you know him or not?"

Y/n leaned back, his smirk returning as he gave a nonchalant shrug.

Y/n: (Casually) "Something like that."

The room fell silent again, the tension thick in the air. Whatever history Y/n had with Kokabiel, he wasn't about to share the details. But his answer—and the sharp glint in his crimson eyes—was enough to make Rias's stomach churn with unease.

Y/n:"Let me guess—he's got his sights set on Kuoh?"

Akeno: (Softly) "It seems likely. We don't have confirmation yet, but the signs are there."

Y/n leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he processed the information. For a moment, the room was eerily quiet, the tension palpable.

Y/n: (Grinning again, though it didn't quite reach his eyes) "Well, good luck with that. Sounds like a real party."

Rias: (Sternly) "Y/n, this isn't a joke. If Kokabiel is involved, we'll need all the help we can get."

Y/n: (Standing up) "Help, huh? Sorry, Rias, but I'm not exactly the team-player type. You've got your peerage for that."

He turned to leave, but Akeno's voice stopped him in his tracks.

Akeno: (Gently) "Are you really okay with sitting this one out? Kokabiel's not the type to play fair. If he attacks, people will die."

Y/n paused, his back to the group. When he finally spoke, his voice was quieter than usual, tinged with something uncharacteristically serious.

Y/n: "I'll think about it."

Without another word, he walked out, leaving the room in uneasy silence.

Scene: Y/n's House, Evening

Back at his house, Y/n sprawled on the sofa, flipping through channels with an air of boredom. Ophis sat next to him, her expression as unreadable as ever.

Ophis: (Calmly) "You're restless."

Y/n: (Sighing) "No kidding. Feels like I've been stuck in a loop lately. Same old fights, same old people. Nothing exciting."

Ophis tilted her head, studying him.

Ophis: (Bluntly) "Kokabiel might be exciting."

Y/n glanced at her, his crimson eyes narrowing slightly.

Y/n: (Smirking) "You always know how to make things sound fun, don't you?"

Ophis didn't respond, simply watching as he leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face.

Y/n: (To himself) "Guess I'll have to make my own fun this time."

(I thought the jump from the intro of the exorcist duo to the kokobiel part was way to big and made no sense. So I added this chapter to make up for this and also give y/n a reason so to say to fight kokobiel instead of just out of boredom.)
