Regulus Tohsaka POV
I dodged around a barrage of palm strike and lunged forward trying to bury my elbow into Kirei's stomach. The motion was quick precise, yet my arm never connected. With a twist of his wrist Kirei grabbed my outstretched arm and in a single fluid motion tossed me across the room. I landed hard on the floor with a grunt my body sliding several feet before I came to a halt.
I groaned as I pushed myself up, dusting off my clothes the pain in my side was sharp but it was a familiar feeling.
Training with Kirei and Risei Kotomine had always been tough I should be used to it by now but there was always something new to learn.
"That's enough Kirei, Regulus," Risei's voice rang out calm but firm Kirei ever the stoic man he was straightened up and gave a nod stepping back without a word but I could see faint flicker of joy in his eyes when he inflicted pain on me but was quickly squashed away with confusion.
It's something I've kept note on whenever we've sparred together "your movements are improving young Regulus but you should pay better attention to where exactly your opponents will strike next instead of focusing on where they are striking at you presently," Risei Kotomine lectured as I flicked my glasses up adjusting them back into place "thank you for the advice Kotomine-sensei," I said with gratitude.
"It's quite fine young lad," Risei's expression softened slightly his keen eyes studying me "your ability to quickly grasp the principles of Super Bajiquan is astonishing I haven't seen such natural skill since Kirei himself," he paused his brows furrowing "if your father permitted it, I might have even recommended you as a potential apprentice enforcer for the Church."
The weight of his words wasn't lost on me the Church's enforcers were a breed of powerful fighters who balanced their faith with the practical ruthlessness required to combat the supernatural. To even be considered let alone recommended was no small feat.
"That's high praise Kotomine-sensei," I replied bowing my head slightly with fake smile plastered on my face "but you and I both know my father has already made the arrangements to send me over to the Matou household in the next coming month," I continued letting a flicker of disdain seep into my tone.
Risei's gaze lingered on me his brows knitting together briefly "indeed," he said his voice laced with measured disapproval "a shame truly such talent deserves a proper nurturing...ah well never mind that you two can rest in your quarters I've other matters to attend to" he continued redirecting the conversation.
Placing his hands behind his back Risei walked away leaving only Kirei and I but he didn't bother to stick around like usual but this time I called out to him "it's difficult for you isn't it Kirei?" I said making him pause while his shoulders went rigid like a knife had suddenly just cut him.
The world was silent except for the faint sound of my breathing and the faint ruffling of the grass.
He turned slowly his expression carefully neutral but the faint shadow of something confusion desperation or maybe hope flickered in his eyes "what are you trying to say Regulus?" his voice was even but I could sense the tension beneath it.
I smile slowly spreading my arms apart "I am saying for you to....rejoice for I hold the answer that you so desperately have been seeking," I replied feeling some amusement at using his own future words "the answer as to why you feel absolutely nothing in your soul and why you can only ever feel joy through sinning," I continued like a devil tempting him with forbidden fruit.
Kirei narrowed his eyes and opened his mouth to speak but I didn't let him "you don't have to deny it, Kirei. I've seen it in the way you move in the way you fight. The fleeting joy you feel when inflicting pain and the hollow despair that follows when you realize what it makes you."
His jaw tightened up but he didn't interrupt good that meant I had his full attention.
"You think you're a contradiction," I continued my tone sharp but calm "a man of faith who finds joy in what others would call sin but what if I told you there's a way to reconcile that? A way to embrace what you are without harming the innocent?"
"However you could channel your sinning into a purpose," I said my voice dropping slightly as I leaned forward.
"There are rogue magi, dead apostles, and countless others who prey on the weak and defy the natural order they are your answer Kirei Kotomine. They are the outlet you've been searching for pursue them. Inflict the things that cause you joy upon those who truly deserve it and in doing so you can find the meaning in your life without betraying your faith or your humanity."
For a moment he said nothing his gaze piercing as though trying to discern if this was some kind of trick then slowly, he asked.
"And what is it you want in return for this... enlightenment?"
I smiled the expression cold and calculated "it's simple you will owe me one absolute favor anything I ask and whenever I ask it. No questions, no hesitation. You will do it without fail."
Kirei's fists clenched at his sides as he thought about my answer to the salvation he so desperately sought after.
Yet I could see the desperation in his eyes the hunger for the solution I was offering. He had been searching for this answer perhaps even praying for it and now it was within his grasp.
For a moment I thought he might refuse but his stoic mask slipped ever so slightly revealing a glimpse of the turmoil within his empty gaze but then he finally nodded.
"I accept," he said quietly his voice steady but carrying the weight of his decision "I will owe you this favor, Regulus whenever you ask for it."
"Excellent," I replied pushing my glasses up causing them to gain a certain shine "then our deal is struck use your talents wisely Kirei and when the time comes, I shall call upon you for that favor," I continued.
With that I turned and walked away back to the Tohsaka household leaving him standing there still and silent.
A smirk was on my face I now had part three of my plan set up.
