Shirou POV

I opened the fridge, scanning for ingredients there was some tofu, a bit of beef, and a few vegetables simple enough looks like I'd be making some stir-fry was the knowledge my brain came up with.

Starting with the vegetables I peeled and sliced the onion the blade moving smoothly through each layer as I cut it into thin strips. My hands moved automatically slicing each carrot and onion into smaller pieces, dicing the bell peppers, and trimming the broccoli into bite-sized florets.

Next, I prepped the tofu patting it dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture then cutting it into even cubes. Setting it aside I turned to the beef slicing it thinly across the grain to keep it tender.

With everything ready I heated a wok over medium-high heat waiting until a drop of water sizzled and evaporated on contact.

Once the oil was hot, I added the tofu cubes, watching as they crisped to a golden brown on each side, flipping them carefully with a spatula to avoid breaking them apart. I seasoned them with a sprinkle of salt and set them aside once they were perfectly crispy, the scent of fried tofu lingering in the air.

After adding a bit more oil to the wok I tossed in the sliced pieces of beef listening to the satisfying sizzle as it hit the pan. The beef cooked quickly its edges browning as the fat rendered out leaving a savory aroma hanging in the air.

I stirred in a bit of soy sauce and mirin coating each piece letting the flavors deepen. Within minutes it was ready, and I scooped the beef out to rest with the tofu.

Now came the vegetables into the wok went a fresh splash of oil followed by garlic and ginger the sharp warm smell filling the room as they began to sizzle. After a few seconds I added the onions stirring them until they softened slightly then in went the carrots, bell peppers, and broccoli I moved them around the wok quickly keeping them crisp.

As the vegetables cooked, I made a simple stir-fry sauce mixing soy sauce, a touch of sesame oil, and a small spoonful of cornstarch in a bowl to thicken it slightly.

The cornstarch would help the sauce coat everything adding a hint of gloss and richness. With the vegetables just tender I poured the sauce over them stirring quickly to let it coat each piece as the aroma intensified.

Finally, I added the tofu and beef back into the wok folding everything together, so each piece was coated evenly the sauce binding everything into a harmonious whole. The scent was savory, warm, and satisfying I gave it one last toss then tasted a piece of the tofu the balance of flavors was spot on which meant that it was ready

I scooped the stir-fry into two bowls and placed them on the table the rice steaming beside it "done," I said with a grin.

I heard the familiar slam of the front door and a cheerful voice calling out from the hallway.

"Shirou! I smell something delicious!" Taiga's voice echoed through the house as she hurried toward the kitchen.

A moment later, she bounded in her eyes widening at the sight of the table set with food. She looked from the steaming stir-fry to the bowl of rice and then to me a huge grin spreading across her face.

"Now this is more like it! You always know how to make my day Shirou," Taiga practically skipped to the table sitting down with a delighted sigh as she pulled her chair closer her eyes fixed on the food with an almost reverent appreciation.

"It's just simple stir-fry, Fuji-nee nothing fancy," I replied with a shake of my head

"Nothing fancy?" she repeated looking at me in disbelief as she picked up her chopsticks "this is exactly what I needed after a long day! No one can cook like you Shirou," the chopsticks I was holding paused for a moment "huh something wrong?" she questioned seeing me pause.

I shake my head "it's nothing we should probably eat before the food gets cold," I said trying it ignore the feeling of pride and satisfaction of her words because this skill in cooking wasn't it my own nothing this body possessed was of my own and that fact made me feel like...I was a faker pretending to be a faker the thought alone suddenly made me want to chuckle.

Can someone really call themselves a fake of another fake I pondered.

"Itadakimasu!" we both exclaimed digging into the food.

"Mmm the tofu is perfect! Crispy on the outside but so soft inside and the beef... delicious as always," she said between bites giving me an approving look that I felt like I really didn't deserve still I smiled.

"So, Shirou," she said pausing mid-bite to look at me "what did you do all day aside from trying out the forge?" she asked

"Nothing much besides cooking for my freeloading guardian?" I said with a teasing grin.

Taiga gasped, her face a mix of shock and mock offense "freeloading?! How could you say that to you poor Fuji-nee? I bring life to this house!"

"Sure, if by 'life' you mean noise," I shot back taking a bite of the beef from my own bowl hmm it was good, but I probably should have left it to suck up some more oil for a juicier taste.

She stuck out her tongue but continued eating, unbothered by my retort. We soon fell into a comfortable silence just the sounds of chopsticks clicking against bowls and the faint sounds of a random cartoon playing on the TV from the other room filling the space.

"So um I was wondering if you wanted to go for a small around the city, I figured you could go out for a bit since your always home by yourself during the summers?" Taiga asked after a moment with a bit of worry.

I shake my head "sorry Fuji-nee not today I need to finish up this book I've been reading," I replied thinking about the journals Kiritsugu had left behind "maybe next time though."

"Reading huh? When I was your age Shirou I would go out all the time to the park and hang out with some of the kids over there you should do the same and live a little otherwise you just may end up like an old hermit," she said with concern.

I shrugged "I'll be fine Fuji-nee your overreacting besides the summer is almost near an end only three more weeks of July then middle school starts again in Augst," I replied as we finished our dinner.

-Later that night-

It wasn't until later that night when I returned back to the shed with a set of candles that I placed on the ground to bring some light into the shed.

Flicking open Kiritsugu's suitcase I carefully extracted his journal sitting on the ground in a crisscross position I began reading through his first journal.

Day #2 Continued

Taiga suggests that I shouldn't spend all of my time at home, that I should go out to places more often and meet with new people.

Why would I waste my time doing that? It's pointless. I am a grown up stuck in a child's body. I wouldn't get along with 'kids' of this bodies current age.

No, I shall continue to focus my efforts towards studying and improving my magecraft. I've already read through the first journal that Kiritsugu left behind. I couldn't really get much out of it other than what some parts of his childhood was like with his father Norkita and the girl he loved...Shirley I believe was her name.

Seems as though he left some notes on the basics of the flash air spell with a note in the corner "potential modification for switching grenades on rouge magi" to bad he never did anything with the spell as whatever object is subjected to the flash air degrades.

-From the journal entry of 'Shirou Emiya'

Alright so this chapter was more of a slice of life chapter hope you all enjoyed it as next chapter we head back into Shirou discovering his additional Origin/Element, Learning some more minor skills from the journals that Kiritsugu left behind, and then experimenting around with said new skills.

Additionally, I still need to cover his eventual sword/combat training, figuring out how to summon his marble, and some other things.

If you guys have any suggestions or ideas, then let me know I am always interested in what my commenters have to say.

I'll also take some slice of life suggestions as well for future chapters since I could only think of cooking for this one.
