(A/N: MUSIC THAT INSPIRED CHAPTER ONE)

Yuji Itadori POV (10 years old)

"listen Yuji there's something you need to about your parents...your mother to be more specific," Grandpa started I open my mouth to interrupt him so that he could save his strength but he gave a harsh glare that made me freeze up.

"Alright gramps I am listening," I relented.

"Sigh...Yuji this isn't something I can hold back on your mother Kaori," his voice cracked "she wasn't the same person she once was, not when she had you."

I frowned "what do you mean? I don't understand I know she wasn't around much but—"

"Kaori wasn't the same woman she used to be," Grandpa said again this time in a sharper tone.

"What are you talking about Gramps? What was wrong with Mom?" I asked confused.

Grandpa paused, looking pained as if the memory itself was a heavy burden "I should have noticed sooner I should have stopped it, but by the time you were born... it was too late."

I squeezed his hand, trying to steady myself "gramps please just tell me what happened."

Grandpa's eyes flickered, a deep sadness in his gaze "there was something... something unnatural about her, Yuji. When she suddenly came back she wasn't the same. There were signs things I couldn't ignore she had stitching marks on her forehead like someone had tried to sew her head closed together, she sometimes acted so...fake whenever she spoke, and the weird feelings I got whenever I was near her always set me on the edge I couldn't understand but I just knew something had taken hold of her."

I stared at Grandpa in stunned silence "what do you mean by 'taken hold of her'? Was she sick or—?"

Grandpa shook his head his face stricken "no it wasn't sickness Yuji it wasn't a normal injury I sensed it a dark presence, some kind of... curse I just knew deep down, that it wasn't her but I couldn't get anyone to listen. Your father Jin was so overjoyed to have her back that he couldn't see it he refused to see it even when I pointed out the strange markings on her forehead and the way she acted."

I felt the world tilt beneath me a sudden chill creeping up my spine "gramps... are you saying my mother wasn't really my mother when she had me? That she—"

"Yuji," Grandpa interrupted, his voice strained with emotion, "your mother was possessed I don't know how or why, but something... took her and by the time she gave birth to you it had already long since consumed her so I did the only thing I could by taking you away and restarting here in Sendai," he finished in a solemn tone of both sadness and regret.

I could barely breathe the thought of my mother being overtaken by something I didn't understand was too much to process much less the fact that my mother wasn't really my birth mother but some sort of twisted thing that was merely using her body. I swallowed hard my throat tightening up just a bit "so what exactly does this mean for me gramps?" I questioned.

Grandpa sighed deeply, his eyes weary "I don't know Yuji all I know is that whatever was inside your mother it didn't just vanish it's been passed down to you. You've got cursed energy I can feel it in you and whatever happened to Kaori, whatever took her from us, it's still out there doing God knows what," he said with a grim tone.

A cold shiver ran down my spine "I guess that explains those weird demon-like creatures I've been seeing," I confessed my voice barely above a whisper.

Grandpa's eyes widened slightly "what do you mean by that Yuji?"

I could see the concern in his eyes but the weight of the confession hung heavy in the room "I've been seeing... things cursed spirits I guess. I didn't know what they were at first so I just did my best to ignore them whenever I saw one," I bit my lips a bit feeling nervous as I waited to hear what he had to say.

"Yuji I want you to listen very carefully at whatever costs avoid those creatures don't let them know you can see them...but if at some point they notice you then you need to be prepared so figure out how to use the power inside you," Gramps replied planting his finger on my chest.

His eyes softened up for a moment "you've always been strong Yuji and even more so with this power you have but don't let it get to your head use that strength to help the people you love," he gave a smile of sadness "don't waste your life or end up lonely like I did...," he continued until he closed his eyes.

My eyes widen as the monitor on the screen started to rapidly beep fast "GRAMPS!! SOMEBODY HELP," I shouted as the nurses and doctor came into the room.

A nurse tried to guide me back but I refused to move my eyes locked on Grandpa's still face "he's going to be okay, right? He has to be please... please don't let him go," I muttered under my breath clenching my fists.

One of the doctors stepped forward his expression grave "Yuji, we need you to step back we're doing everything we can but right now we need space to work."

I couldn't hear him over racing of my mind Grandpa had just dropped a bombshell on me, revealing things I didn't even want to consider and now... now he was slipping away.

The beeping continued but the tone was slowly changing I could feel the warmth of his hand fading, and the last tether connecting me to him weakening.

"No... no!" I tried to push through the doctors my voice breaking "Gramps you promised! You said I was strong please, don't leave me alone I still need you," I cried out feeling something like hot electricity travel around my body for a moment then a slight flash of black occurred as I pushed through the doctors only to get tackled down by a security guard.

"Kid! You need to stop right now ok let the doctors handle this" The guard shouted snapping me out of my daze "please...don't...leave...me," I whispered out then there was only darkness as I finally pass out from exhaustion.
