When I first entered the school, I was under a lot of pressure. Back in middle school, I could at least make it to the top 10, but once I got here, I realized there were a lot of geniuses around. Looking around, all I saw were academic powerhouses, and compared to them, I was nothing.
So I treated Hao Wu Yi especially well. I'd buy her breakfast, accompany her to do duties, and give her all the meat when we ate. She really felt the love of a classmate, and even today, she brings it up with tears in her eyes. I couldn't bear to tell her that I was afraid she might transfer—because as long as she was here, I wouldn't be at the bottom.
Once, we had a math exam, and I had no confidence. Hao Wu Yi sat behind me, and when we handed in our papers, she passed hers up to me. I was shocked to see that she had written every part of the later questions completely! I thought, "I'm definitely going to be the last this time."
After the class, F, who was helping to grade the papers, came back and told me, "Don't worry, you did a little better than her."
I said, "Don't comfort me; I saw her write everything."
F looked at me with a deadpan face and said, "She didn't answer a single question. She just copied the problems five times."
