CUT TO: DOWNTOWN DISTRICT
INT. POLICE STATION EVIDENCE ROOM - AFTERNOON
CHIEF RITTER ALONGSIDE JACOB, TORIA, AND MICEALA EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE THAT THE WEN MARS PROVIDED WITH THE THREE PEOPLE THEY DROPPED OFF AT THE POLICE STATION. JACOB SIGHS AS HE LOOKS OVER THE EVIDENCE.
[Jacob]
This is perplexing. All the evidence for the crimes is here and he didn't kill them.
[Toria]
If he can get to these people he can get to anyone. None of the people he brought in even wanted to take their phone calls.
[Jacob]
What's this guy's deal anyway? I thought that his whole shtick was that he was a murdering psycho. Why is he playing vigilante all of a sudden?
[Micaela]
If were to seek prosecution these would be high-level cases. Howard Singsen, an ex-state senator who led a kickback scheme. Benjamin Adorno, an ex-district court clerk who stole over a million dollars from Bedrock. Apryl Stave stole thousands from a nonprofit organization that coordinates organ transplants. Judy Maxwell current judge who from the looks of it is in a relationship with a minor.
[Chief Ritter]
He's got something to say about our system.
[Jacob]
What do you mean?
[Chief Ritter]
The Dragoon's done more than his fair share of homework, he's got something to say about our system. He knows that there's nothing that we'll be able to do about these people and their crimes even though we should have them dead to rights. He's taunting us.
[Micaela]
What he fails to realize is that we have this system for a reason.
[Chief Ritter]
However, it should work when it needs to. If you had relations with a minor and it was documented, wouldn't you believe you should be arrested?
[Toria]
Just think of all the good that could be done with the technology he's coveting. He would have made one hell of a detective if he ever decided to become a cop. Would have been even more productive than what he's doing now.
[Jacob]
You could say the same thing about Shade. Everyone wants to take matters into their own hands but no one wants to deal with the paperwork.
[Chief Ritter]
Unfortunately, I don't think it works that way. Besides, with what he's done he wouldn't get paid nearly enough.
[Micaela]
What are you talking about?
[Chief Ritter]
Think about drugs. As detestable as they are, the destabilization that would come as a result of the market suddenly drying up would cause pandemonium. The dependency on the dollar of discord injected into economies is a real shame but a harsh reality. If the drug trade suddenly went belly up, banks wouldn't get their cut from washing filthy money and that money would be blocked from the economies that depended on it.
[Micaela]
What's your point exactly, Chief?
[Chief Ritter]
As much as people like to try and hide the facts the almighty dollar would come before morals. Radical resolution would be ridiculed because someone in power stands to lose something and they won't stand for it.
