CUT TO: POLICE STATION
EXT. POLICE STATION- LATE AFTERNOON
SHADE ARRIVES AT THE POLICE STATION AND FINDS TORIA.
[Shade]
So, what's going on?
[Toria]
Commissioner Reed says that the person he assigned to look into Spinks' content found several points of criticism on Pruitt and Hewitt. Spinks sure didn't like either of them but it looks like he had some kind of bone to pick with Pruitt more than anything.
TORIA AND SHADE GO TO THE COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE WHERE ANOTHER OFFICER HAS A LEGAL PAD WITH NOTES FROM ETHAN SPINKS' PODCAST AND VIDEOES.
[Shade]
What did you find out?
[Police Officer#1]
So everything that I could find regarding Spinks discussing Hewitt and Pruitt's policies is honestly very much what you would expect for someone of his media platform. Spinks' having a very albeit liberated tongue criticized Pruitt heavily for the way that he ran his non-profits and his groveling to lawmakers saying that Pruitt was a disingenuous, irresponsible, brownnosing and loathsome piece of human garbage and that his kind was the part of America that everyone wants to get rid of the most. He said about Hewitt that he was just Pruitt's toy, a Mr. Potato head of sorts that Pruitt could put any face that he wanted to preferably his own face. Most of his rants about them go on to say pretty much the same thing.
[Shade]
I did some research into the matter as well. Pruitt was using his connections to gain extra funding for his non- profit organization and then shaving some of the money off of the top to fuel his extravagant lifestyle. Seemingly common corrupt rich guy behavior.
[Toria]
Spinks went after them hard and that kind of talk could be the type of talk that could put a target on a person's back. Surely they had enough money and resources to silence his criticism so why kill him?
[Shade]
Maybe we need to hear it from Marvin himself. I know that you didn't want me alerting him too soon but he has to know that something is up now. And if he doesn't, there's no one that he could alert.
[Commissioner Reed]
I suppose that it can't hurt. Getting a motive would at least clarify exactly what drove him to the act. And then there's the question of who Levi was talking when we left. Money can make a lot of things disappear and if he thought that he would exempt from the jurisdiction of cops based on this unknown party, then they could have the power to help Marvin as well. We can't let Marvin slip through the cracks because if he does it'll send a message that they can still get away with whatever they want.
[Shade]
Did anyone find out where those calls came in from on Levi's phone?
[Commissioner Reed]
No, they're still looking into it. But it seems that the phone is using multiple signals all at the same time. We can't get a point of origin.
[Shade]
So, am I clear to talk to Marvin? No one except for Marvin will know that I was there.
[Commissioner Reed]
Go ahead. But be smart about it.
[Shade]
I got it.
