1 Day Later
Something was off.
I had gone to the Uchiha Compound this afternoon asking for Shisui's whereabouts after waking up to an empty space next to me, but the Uchihas avoided the topic.
The more they avoided it, the more curious I had become.
It made me wonder what had happened to him that left people uneasy.
I rushed on over to Itachi's place and from afar I could see that the door was open. I was about to go in, but heard a male voice coming from inside. I was about to peek at who it was but immediately stopped in my tracks once I heard that man say, "It's about Shisui Uchiha who died after throwing himself into the Nakano River last night."
"What?" I shakily whispered and slumped to my knees which seemed to have reached their ears. They stepped out and there were three men who seemed to be from the Uchiha Police Force who looked down at my helpless figure after hearing the news.
"Ah shit," grumbled one of them.
Itachi then stepped out and his eyes widened at the sight of me on the ground with tears forming in my eyes. He lifted me up and held me up like a child.
"Is it true?" I asked Itachi with quivering lips. "Is Shisui really...dead?"
He sighed and dreaded having to see me like this. He would've lied if I didn't overhear what they said, but there was no point lying to me since I wanted confirmation.
"...yes. Shisui is dead."
My heart shattered and more tears began to well up in my eyes. I grabbed ahold of Itachi's shirt and my hands began to shake. "B-But, how?! He was with me last night, when did he leave?! How could he have..." My grip on him loosened and my eyes were slowly becoming dull like when I first lost my parents. I was slowly returning to how I was.
"And we, the Police Force, have decided to launch an all out investigation."
"This is the will Shisui left." One of them handed Itachi a folded piece of paper which Itachi grabbed ahold of. He unfolded it in front of me and allowed me to read the contents of what was written insiders.
'I have wearied of duty. As it is, the Uchiha has no future and neither do I.... I can no longer follow the "path." I silently read in my mind before glancing at Itachi who was staring at the three men in front of him.
"The most talented of all our clan, feared as Shisui the Teleporter. He was a man who took on any mission for the sake of our clan. It's hard to believe that someone like that would kill himself, leaving that behind."
"Anyways we'll leave you his will. Take it to the Anbu and request their cooperation in this investigation!"
"(Y/n), stay inside." Itachi set me down on the ground, but before he could step out, I pulled his hand wanting to know one thing.
"Everything Shisui said....was that all a lie?" I choked back. "He never planned on having me stay with him, right? It was all false hope."
Itachi knelt down and cupped my cheeks before staring directly into my eyes. "I know Shisui far better than anyone else. I'm sure he meant it, but then all of this happened. I'm sorry."
Itachi let go of my face and I proceeded to cover my face with my hands as I ran out of the house and towards my house only to be reminded of the last moment we had shared there.
~Next day~
A knock was heard at the door which made me get out of bed and once I opened it, I saw the same ninja who had escorted me when I first came.
"There has been an incident at the Uchiha compound. Since you're affiliated with them, we thought we should let you know."
"Oh, thank you. I'll head there right now." I closed the door on him and scrabbled for my ninja sandals.
I slipped them on and rushed out the door to the Uchiha Compound but as I arrived there, there was yellow tape blocking the entrance.
"What happened here...?" My skin grew cold and I immediately slipped through the tape and saw dry blood stains on the ground which caused my stomach to drop.
'Don't tell me...' I felt a drop of water land on my nose and as I looked up, more droplets of water began to sprinkle down.
I ran over to Mikoto's place only to see Sasuke standing in front of his place under the sprinkling rain with a dull expression on his face.
An expression that I once had on my face before.
"Sasuke!"
He slowly turned his head in my direction and his one tomoe Sharingan bore into my eyes which made me freeze.
"I wouldn't understand huh?" Coldly said Sasuke as his eyes pierced my (e/c) eyes.
"Huh?"
He marched on over to me and grabbed both my shoulders and began to roughly shake me. "Okasan and Otousan...They're dead! Everyone is dead except me! You said I wouldn't understand how you felt, but I know it all too well now."
"Sasuke, I-I didn't know this would happen...who did this...?"
"Itachi."
The name left me frozen in place and I shook my head in denial. "W-What? N-no way... Itachi would never!"
"I saw it with my own eyes! Itachi slaughtered them right in front of me!" He let go of my shoulders and slumped to the ground as his tears were now mixed in with the rain that was growing stronger.
'Could Itachi really have done something like this?'
I grabbed his arm and helped him stand back up. I pulled him into a tight embrace and placed my chin on his shoulder.
"We'll get through this! I'll help you like how you guys helped me! They may all be gone, but....you still have me!"
In my tight embrace, Sasuke's eyes softened before he recalled something which made his body stiffen and his eyes turned cold. He pushed me away which shocked me and he yelled, "I don't need it nor you!"
"What do you mean?! I want to-"
"Leave," he sharply interjected and turned his back on me. I gazed at the symbol of the Uchiha clan that was on the back of his shirt and walked away believing that he needed some time and space to process all of this, but I was wrong.
This only marked the beginning that the bond our clans had was now broken
