Ryder was nervous. He had so many things coming to a head all at once this week. First, the movies where he planned to set Adan and Kendric up. Second, the full moon. Third, the rogue situation.
He'd received a few texts while at Kendric's house, where Axel asked if he would mind meeting up the day before the full moon. He felt nervous about the occasion, and held back on responding.
If he got his truck before then, maybe he could skip town? Not that he'd want to put his parents in danger, but if he disappeared, then the rogues would have no reason to go after his family.
You can't ransom someone if you don't know where to send the ransom note.
It was a stupid plan. But he was getting desperate. On top of all of that, he still needed to figure out the school situation.
Ugh!
Ryder rubbed his face as he rolled over in his blankets.
Why couldn't he just have asked those two if they were werewolf hunters?
It was 2 AM and he was wide awake. He could feel his adrenaline rising from all the stress and eventually pulled out his phone.
'Are you a werewolf hunter?' He texted. First to Adan, then to Kendric.
Then he dropped his phone and stared up at the ceiling. For some reason he expected an immediate reply, forgetting that it'd be ludicrous for them to still be awake at this hour. But he waited regardless and fiddled with his thumbs.
Eventually, light started shining through the window and he hadn't gotten a wink of sleep.
He got ready and Ubered to the campus. There, he checked again but still hadn't received a reply. He was so anxious that he didn't even notice when Mr. Fadecut waved at him in the hall. He was completely distracted all through his first class, and then it was time for BCIS.
Kendric wasn't anywhere to be seen.
His worst fears seemed to come to light as he sat down. He'd weirded out his friends and now they were avoiding him.
"Ryder." Kendric's voice snapped him out of his spiral, and he smiled in relief at the man beside him. "We need to talk about your text."
The smile was instantly wiped from his face. Yeah. He'd screwed up.
"What text?" He bailed on everything and played dumb.
Kendric was about to say something, but then the teacher called attention and ordered everyone to prepare for the quiz.
What kind of teacher has a quiz on a Monday?
Thanks to this, they couldn't discuss whatever Kendric was about to say, much to Ryder's relief.
He scanned the quiz, realizing that maybe this wasn't as easy as he thought it was. When he was doing the homework, all he had to do was google the answers, but now he had to pull the answers from memory.
Normally tests weren't so bad for him, but he'd had so many things going on lately that he failed to study for anything.
Ryder answered as best he could, then triple-checked before hitting submit, knowing it'd be a miracle if he passed. Then he sped out of the class.
Unfortunately, he didn't consider how smart Kendric was, because the man also finished and was right behind him.
"Ryder. Why did you send that message?" He asked, cornering the man at the end of the hall.
