Adan had walked Ryder halfway across the street before he pulled his arm away and apologized for grabbing him. However, Ryder was too dazed from everything to even register the contact.

They got to the hotel, and he checked into his room. He didn't have a change of clothes but didn't think anyone would notice if he wore the same thing twice.

At least, he hoped it wouldn't be obvious. Either way, he had to wait until his apartment was safe before he could get his things.

"I'll take you after your class." Adan was saying as Ryder got himself comfortable on the bed. "And once you unpack, we can grab a bite to eat. The more people see you around town, the more they'll lighten up around you. And I already let my uncle know you're in Sutton for now."

Ryder mumbled, turning his head and burying it into the pillows.

"I'll let you get some sleep. Good night."

"Night."

"Do you want me to turn off the lights?"

"Yeah."

The room darkened and he heard Adan's footsteps leave. His brain had been in overdrive all evening and right now, he just wanted to turn it off. So that's exactly what he did.

He hadn't set the alarm but was luckily reminded when Adan arrived first thing that morning. Ryder checked the time and saw he had less than an hour till class, and that the man had tried texting him.

His head hurt and his eyes felt puffy. But he opened the door and let Adan in any way. The man handed him a bag with some shirts in it.

"I don't know your size, but I have plenty of extra clothes. They'll be big on you, but you can tuck them in. Right?"

Ryder tried on one of the shirts, and just as suspected, it was much too big. The neck hole itself drooped over his shoulder. "I appreciate it, but I'll just wear my shirt from yesterday and change when I get my clothes from the apartment."

"Do you want me to send someone to get your stuff? We'd just need the key." Adan suggested as he averted his eyes.

"I'd rather not have strangers rummaging through my stuff," Ryder put his old shirt back on and following the man out to his car.

They drove to the campus, and Ryder was beginning to feel nervous all over again.

"So about last night, I appreciate that you tried to patch things with me and Kendric, but I don't think we'll end up back together."

Reminded of what had kicked off last night's disastrous affairs, he turned to the man. "Why not? You guys work great together."

"No, we don't." He snorted. "Kendric only does what conveniences himself. Anything nice he said was probably just to get on your good side so you'd agree to join the Blue Field Pack."

"But at the time he thought I was a rogue."

"I at least suspected that you weren't. That's why I kept arguing to tell you sooner. But my uncle can be unreasonably stubborn. He wants to meet you by the way."

"Of course he does." Ryder was glad he had already met Kendric's parents. Now that he knew the man was an 'Alpha', he felt he could better understand that uneasy feeling he'd been getting during their initial meeting. Which meant he'd more than likely get that same sense from Adan's uncle. "He wants to make sure I'm not dangerous."

"That too." Adan admitted as they parked. "Anyway, give me a text once you're ready to be picked up."

As Ryder got out of the car, he had a thought. "What would you do if Kendric was the one to try and patch things up?"
