Ryder's mother led him and Delilah away while the pack cleaned up the mess from the fight. Mrs. Ellis went to go get some medical attention for her headwound, and the unturned students surrendered once they saw how dangerous werewolf life could be.
Once they were out of the forest, Officer Jones and other police took everyone in for questioning.
As they were led to the cop cars, Mabel appeared with her arms handcuffed behind her back. She spotted Ryder and looked like she wanted to cry. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know it would be like this."
"It's okay. I know." He reassured her.
Ryder's parents came with him to the station, where he and the others had to explain what had happened. He gave them details on how far into the mines he went, how many rogues he saw, where Axel might be hiding, and how he escaped. Once he was released, he was greeted by a tense room with his parents on one side and Adan and Kendric on the other.
Without much thought, he ran to his boyfriends, who grabbed him protectively. His parents had stood as he passed and watched the three hug.
"Ryder? What's going on?" Sharlene asked. And he turned meekly.
"Uh...Mom, these are my boyfriends."
After finding out his parents had withheld so much his whole life, Ryder just wanted to air everything out.
"What?" His father snapped. "What the hell does that mean?"
Adan frowned at the man, but Kendric remained calm as he stepped forward. "My name is Kendric Huxley. It's nice to formally meet you."
"I thought you guys already met?" Ryder asked, perplexed. "All of you came to help me."
"It's complicated," Adan replied. "We can't explain it here."
Then Delilah came out, with a blanket around her shoulders. Ryder noticed that she seemed zoned out, and would need someone to assist her. "Mom, Dad. I know there's a lot to explain but I think Delilah needs help getting home first."
His dad was friends with Delilah's father, so that shouldn't be too much of an ask.
"I'll take her." His mother volunteered, guiding her back to the car. His father shot one more look at the trio.
"This isn't over. We're going to discuss this more in a bit."
They all left, and finally, he was alone with his boyfriends. The three of them stood near their cars, oddly silent. Ryder was dying to ask questions but noticed the mood had shifted.
"I...I'm sorry." He apologized. Adan still avoided eye contact with him, so Kendric squeezed his arm comfortingly.
"Ryder, what you did was very stupid." The tattooed man accused. "Texting us in the middle of the night, going off alone without a word. It was hard enough convincing the Alphas that you weren't working with the rogues, but do you know how bad that looked? How hard it was to explain on your behalf?"
"I know." His shoulders slumped. "But I was afraid that the packs wouldn't help Delilah if I left it up to them."
"After everything we'd done?"
"Everything that was done was to help keep the packs safe. But Delilah was getting hurt. They were texting me pictures of her injuries. And I did rely on the packs for help initially, but it didn't work. What could I do?"
"You could have told us!"
"And what would you have done?" Ryder asked with a huff. "I told Adan as soon as they texted me, and he immediately turned to the packs while you went along with it. What would have been the difference the second time? Would you have listened if I told you I was afraid that the packs would fail again?"
