The next day was nerve-wracking. Kendric showed up at Adan's house and the three discussed what would happen.
Robert had notified the authorities in Crater Point. Specifically, the ones who were werewolves, and made sure they would investigate the area. Meanwhile, a group of Betas remained on standby a mile away just in case things went south.
Then they waited.
The three of them were sitting on the front porch of Adan's house.
"Tell them you're on your way," Kendric said once he got confirmation that the officers were ready to move.
Ryder did as commanded and hit 'send'.
If they could catch the rogues, then he could use his powers to get some answers out of them.
What would happen afterward?
The Alphas hated the idea of getting exposed to humans. But if Delilah realized she'd been held captive by real live werewolves, then their secret would be out. Would they force her to stay in town? Could they?
Her parents would never allow it. If anything, trying to keep her here would cause even more trouble.
An unwanted call from his parents had him annoyed and he angrily hit 'ignore'.
"Your dad again?" Adan asked.
"He won't stop. I tried texting him but he never liked communicating that way. And I'm not ready to hear his voice yet."
"Texting is easier." Kendric agreed. "It allows you more time to think about what you want to say."
ÑExactly. But when we're on the phone and he gets in a mood, he'll talk over me. At least with a text, I know he had to see what I wrote..."
"Maybe he's trying to apologize?" Adan attempted to be optimistic. "What he said to you was pretty messed up for any parent."
It was crummy to have parents who only wanted you around for their convenience. After his last call with them, it was clear they weren't concerned for Ryder's future at all.
"I don't think now is a good time to talk about it," Kendric pointed out. "There are less stressful topics we can go over."
"Like homework."
"Homework is also stressful to think about." Ryder groaned.
"Food?"
"I'm too nervous to be hungry."
"Sex?"
Ryder paused, earning a laugh from both of them. "I knew that would get your attention."
"Didn't you say it'd be obvious in a house full of werewolves?" He asked Adan.
"I did, but it was fun to see how eager you were to accept that option."
"I wasn't! You caught me off guard."
"We're teasing." Adan hugged him. "I'm sorry, don't be upset."
Ryder pouted in his arms.
These guys were really good at getting his mind off things, and he appreciated it. So his pout softened.
"Hey." Kendric leaned down. "If you keep pouting like that, your face is going to get stuck that way."
"What are you, my mother?"
"That would make our relationship particularly strange."
"And I don't know how to feel about my boyfriend dating his mother." Adan chimed in.
