Warning! Spicy Chapter!

"Why not?" Paul sat perplexed across the diner table. "We're about to leave town. You need some way to protect yourself!"
"I don't need something like that!" Ryder pushed the poorly concealed pistol back toward his father, who had lazily tossed a napkin over it so other patrons didn't notice what it was. "You're going to get us in trouble!"
"Sweetheart, I know you're a..." Sharlene glanced around before leaning in and whispering. "Werewolf now. But that doesn't make you invincible!"
"I'll be fine. Adan and Kendric will protect me if anything else happens."
"And if that rogue returns?" His father folded his arms. "What then?"
"It's been weeks and he still hasn't shown up. He probably skipped town after the rest of the rogues were taken care of."
"We're still worried."
"I'm not taking the gun."
She clicked her tongue, then finally grabbed the weapon and stuffed it back in her purse. Then she dug around a little more before taking out a small black box. "Then at least take this."
Ryder examined the odd tool. "What is it?"
She flipped the top and squeezed two buttons along its sides, causing a loud crackling sound as the taser came to life.
"Mom! No!" He yelped, and she rolled her eyes and put it away.
"Son, you gotta have something to protect yourself. You can't just rely on those two Alphas forever." Paul warned.
"It's okay." Sharlene continued to dig through her purse. "He has a point. If anyone got close enough for him to use the taser, he'd be in too much danger already. He needs range." Next, she pulled out a small black spray bottle with a locked red button.
Ryder leaned away, fearful of what new weapon she'd pulled from her purse. She slid it across the table at him. "I can't demonstrate pepper spray indoors."
"Oh." He calmed down and picked it up. The instructions were written right on the side, including how to unlock the top to avoid accidentally spraying yourself. "I guess I can take this."
"And why not the gun?" His father seemed offended that he had taken the discreet option.
"Maybe because it's illegal to have concealed weapons here in Crater Point?"
"What a load of horse shit."
"It's the law."
"Fine. See if I care." The man got up to leave, along with Sharlene. "Give us a call if that bastard shows his face again."
"I will." He stood. "Thanks for worrying about me."
They hugged, then stepped out of the diner where Adan and Kendric were waiting. His parents shot them some concerning looks but didn't say much else as they began their drive back to Polporro.
Ryder waved them off.
It was odd being officially moved out of his parent's home. He had only thought of staying in Crater Point for college, but instead, he was now living with two men in a huge house off the lake. Life had a funny way of dodging plans.
"Ready to go?" Kendric asked.
"Yeah. Let's go home."
They all drove back to the newly furnished house. Ryder still had to wait for the rest of his things to be delivered all the way from Polporro though.
